Buffed DoT abilities being replaced by normal DoT

I've noticed that when playing my SMN, that when garuda extends the DoT effect and I accidently cast bio(II) or miasma, it overwrites the extended time and reduces it to the normal tick time on the boss, which is no bueno, im asking/hoping that this could be fixed to where if garuda egi does cast the increase DoT ability that when you do cast your spells it will not replace the spell with the normal tick time, but say no effect until the time is reduced to when the normal time would be beneficial to replace the DoT. this may not just be an issue with just SMN abilities but probably other classes/jobs as well. I would really appreciate a look at this and think it would help out a lot players.

I think you should just be a bit more careful. I'm a SMN main and I don't have issues with this and actually like the fact that I can overwrite when the timer starts to get low.

its not that replacing the dot when the timer is low, its when you get the extension of the dot being like 40 secs and then you use the same spell after and it drops it to 20 secs, you just lost 20 secs of the extension from the garuda egi ability, I think they should have it if you did happen to cast the same spell after its been extended to not drop to the normal time but to just keep the enhancement

why cast an dot while it is still active in the first place?
wouldn't ruin be a better choice then?

you are absolutely right, ruin should be used when your dots are up but that's not the issue, but lets say your dots are at 8 secs and you go to refresh em and the garuda egi does the ability that increases the time on top of that 8 secs left and now the time is longer than if you were to refresh, but you happen to finish the cast as when garuda egi did its buff to your dots, so now the extension time that garuda put on the DoT which would be greater than your normal DoT is lost, b/c of the cast of the spell you did replaced it, so it went from 8 secs to 38 sec, but down to 30 secs b/c of the cast, you lost 8 secs of the extended DoT from garuda egi. so your replacing a buffed version of your spell with a lesser version, which I think shouldn't happen for any class/job I think the buffed spell shouldn't be able to be replaced until its no longer greater than the normal spell.

It sounds to me like you're playing with Garuda on Sic. Here's a tip: Garuda should ALWAYS be set to Obey. You have full control on when she uses Contagion. Contagion is used to save MP in the long run, and boost our DPS (extending buffed DoTs), there's literally no reason to not run her on Obey

thank you for understanding what im saying and for the suggestion and I will try playing with garuda on obey, but still even if garuda is on sic or if any class/jobs have a buffed dot on a target, I don't think it should be where the buffed DoT can be replaced until its lesser than the norm, its something I hope FFXIV team looks into changing

The system used to work that you can't overwrite a stronger buff (it actually made playing some classes annoying, like Dragoon and Chaos Thrust or Bard with Venomous/windbite), but that was changed and it was an amazing change (at least imo) clipping DoTs is a problem yes but as long as you clip within >3 seconds, you're beyond golden, and it keeps things going smoothly
