This isn't XI. Stop trying to bring more XI stuff here. If something like this did happen it would be a new NPC with new lore for a new world.

You mean characters like Shatotto and Raubahn? NMs like Bubbly Bernie, Ichorous Ire, and Leech King? The exact same beastmen like the Qiqirn and Mamool Ja (didn't exist before ARR from what I heard)? Goblins with the exact same models from FFXI?
What's wrong with Maat? Its not like I'm suggesting they use him as a way to block advancement, and I think he certainly added some character to Jeuno back in FFXI. He would probably do the same for whatever city he ends up getting placed in. I wouldn't be surprised if someone like him appeared in Ishgard.![]()
Hey, this isn't WoW either, but look at theWarlockSummoner we got..and basic game play...and very similar battle (Hullbreaker). Oh and also the fact there's quite a few XI NPCs in XIV lore already. I know you probably dislike XI, but you also forgot about the Magitek Reapers, that are the exact design of a FFVI's Magitek and ONLY present in FFVI's world and lore, oh and FFVII's Golden Saucer. It's time to move on from the hate~
This would be pretty interesting because it's an amazing way to implement an old (and very important) NPC in the FF MMO series as a type of training/tutorial instructor. Yoshida did say this is a FAN SERVICE TITLE, remember that?
And the Opo-Opo
The Raptors.
The Mandragoras.
One of the Crab Models
Most Coil Enemies are from FFXII/XIII.
The Gargoyles (XI)
The Imps (XI)
The Tauri mobs (XI)
The Cloyster things (XI)
Fafnir (XII)
....
Funny how SE fit them into this world and gave them lore just fine, people really hate XI around here despite XIV already borrowing so much from it and others - It's perfectly fine to borrow from WoW and other FF games, but SE's other successful MMO? Oh lordy no.

Actually I rather liked it. Played for over 5 years.
It comes down to this. Monsters, machines, and other minor elements being reused doesn't matter very much, but taking a named character with a specific history and lore and dumping him into another world isn't what this game needs. Even Shantotto was more of a tease than anything since she wasn't a lasting game element. This game needs it's own NPCs, it's own lore, and it's own destiny. Not to mooch off one of XI's best known NPCs just because it would be cool.
There is a big difference between playing homage and blatantly plucking characters from another game. Even Xande and the Crystal Tower characters aren't exact duplicates. You view them through the lense of the Allagan as opposed to directly from FF3.

And the thing you seem to forget despite saying this?
Maat wouldn't be there to break your 50/55/60/65/70/75/80/85/90 level caps, he's there as a 'traveled' adventurer who's faced off with the realms deadiliest beasts and knows all of their tricks and will "use them" to teach you how to handle it. Different lore already. Shanttoto was the same character when she came into Eorzea and even stated the same thing many of the FFXIV only NPCs stated - Interdimensional magic exists and 'the void' is pretty much the link between worlds (no pun intended.)
So plucking that NPC out would be the same as plucking out Raubahn and making him a Grand Company leader of Ul'dah.
