Try playing WoW without any addons, you cheesed your way through the game just like everyone who used addons to help them. The amount of people that used DBM/Healer assisted addons was ridiculous. You made the game easy and addons ruined that game. You people keep talking about these MMos of the past and how they were several times more difficult. I played a lot of them and I don't it. I remember on WoW I would park my healer on some corner and play whack a mole on healbot. The difficulty was in how fast I could click on names. Or with a DPS, stay in the feet of some gigantic boss and furiously mash buttons for leet dps.
I have never experienced a fight like titan ex before and how everyone in the party must move around a lot to avoid one shots. The main reason why I find FFXIV fights difficult is how much movement heavy the fights are, something I rarely experienced on past MMOs.
True they ruined the game but you remove healbot and I would still stand there parked clicking on the party window instead of healbot.

But would it make it a little more challenging to have to manually hit your spell and click on someones name than having every single persons name on your screen that you just clicked and it healed for you? I think it would. And Deadly Boss Mods is completely insane, should not need that to play an mmo.
Really? I love addons. For me, they make the game MORE fun. I'm very excited to see addon use become a regular thing for this game, too.
Flight HUD, Deadly Boss Mod, NPC scan with overlay, Carbonite, Bartender, AtlasLoot, Postal, Livestock, Archy.... I'm having trouble remembering others. I use a ton, I'm a bit of an addon whore.
As for this game... I'd love to have more customization options with the HUD. A better map system, one that would allow notes to be put on the map. Something like DBM for the boss fights. Something like NPC Scan to alert you when rarespawns are detected nearby. I know there's an addon like that in use, but right now it's unfair because it gives PC players an advantage over console players who (as far as I know) have no way to use it. An addon utility from SE that would work on both PC and Playstation would even things out.

The only addon I agree with really is to change your HUD how you want it DBM you should not need that defeats the purpose and the game pretty much plays for you, npc scan is cheesy addons ruin mmos.Flight HUD, Deadly Boss Mod, NPC scan with overlay, Carbonite, Bartender, AtlasLoot, Postal, Livestock, Archy.... You are aware that those bright telegraph overlays and icons serve the same purpose as DBM, right?
To each their own. They might ruin them for you, but they improve them for me.
Good thing they are optional, huh?

No, they actually don't improve them for you. Addons allow the community to start becoming bad. Having to rely on addons to play a game is a terrible way to want to play a game. Do you really need an addon telling you when a boss ability is coming? No, you don't, just pay attention to the fight. You don't need a single addon other than a HUD change to improve the game for you.
