I've also run into the excuse of: Japan likes it, so why change it if the western fans complain? What confuses me on the whole issue is that SE had a wonderful model they could have just ripped right out of Final Fantasy XII for hunts, but instead gave us what we have today. In fact, the problem with hunts is the exact same problem we had with fates when atmas were first introduced in 2.2. I have trouble believing that the developer didn't see these problems coming. Part of me is suspecting that this is all some sort of bureaucratic stunt so that the original direction of the game can be justified to their boss via criticism of some lazily implemented open world grinds. Another problem is that the feedback Yoshi is getting from the forums may not be getting filtered to him properly. A single developer cannot keep reading loads of angry stuff and still have a healthy, balanced view of the situation forever.
If something else better comes along in the MMO genre and SE starts hemmoraging subs... maybe they'll notice.
Pity they've got no real compeition out there atm, which is why they prolly dont give two moogles what we think as long as we keep paying them like the mindless, grindy sheep most players are.
Don't mistake politeness for good game design. I've asked a couple times and folks have stated that JP players aren't complaining and don't rage in shout like NA does, but that's not because the content is designed well with rewards commensurate with challenge; it's because they are too damn polite to tell Yoshi-P he dropped the ball in a HUGE way.
Or maybe they just want it to go back to being like XI. Comfortable 250k-ish subs, low population to please, and most of that population is the type that will play Dynamis to fund one guy's relic for two years and then thank SE for the "challenging" content.
I wonder if they consider people complaining on the forums in the minority as well.Don't mistake politeness for good game design.
