Because they were probably broken and unusable back then. I never expected any more than this for 1.19.

They clearely stated they didn't implement Chocobos right away because they wanted it to be special (can't remember if it was the old or the current team, anyway if they were working on the "special" part I find it hard to belive there wasn't anything ready for a rental system).

Not to mention you have to determine where chocobos can go and where they can't. Can chocobos go underground? Can chocobos go into dungeons? Do chocobos use the same terrain collision rules as players? Since there are no zone lines, can you use chocobos inside cities?

If not, how do you stop players from riding into no-chocobo areas? Do you eject the player off the chocobo immediately? Do you have the game give a warning?

See, lots of stuff to get settled.

Well, instead of being a snide jerk for no reason you could probably go ahead and reread my post. Not once in my reply did I imply or state that I "knew" anything about the development. I said "probably" because, even though there ARE chocobos in each city-state, they PROBABLY didn't have the mechanics for using chocobos. Just having the animation and the model aren't enough. They would need to figure out the programming for chocobo speed vs normal speed, as well as the controls for using them, countering the aggro and AoE system, as well as dispelling any bugs and probably more.

And they hopefully will be special, as they have said they will be, but it will take some time. You should be happy they are giving us the rental version BEFORE all of that so that we can at least have that while we wait for the good stuff.
