That is disappointingJust this morning I planted gardens to get seeds for this combo. I had hoped that I would not need jute etc to make the onion since I do not have any of those...
So far, it's any "G3" chocobo food with a G3/4 non-choco food.
As in G1-Gysahl, G2-Krakka, G3-(Curiel, Sylkis, Mimett, etc.), G4-Thav.Onion.
And similarly, G4 non-choco foods would be Jute/Glazenut/Broombush while G3 would be their precursors like Shroud Tea, Gerbera/Lily, Royal Kukuru, etc.
The new minions feel like a G3. I haven't had the space to be growing them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they would work to make onions as well.
Offhand, I think it'd be the easiest to maintain a supply of Broombush, Sylkis, and Thav.Onions, ones you get the Broombushes. And you'd probably want to be able to grow at least some Broombushes anyways so you can have stable brooms.
It wouldn't be infinitely sustainable the way repeatable jute/glaze/broom patches normally are because of the flaky chance of getting Sylkis seeds, but I think it's the easiest way to attempt to juggle a Sylkis + Broom supply. If people you're growing for want more than just Sylkis though, then you'd have to go out of your way for them.Code:Alm Kr Alm Yields Sylkis and Mandrake. Kr Kr Krakkas grow faster, so could possibly breed a second set Alm Kr Alm with Almonds depending on how often you can fertilize. Alm Br Alm Remove Krakkas first, plant Broombushes to breed w/ old Almonds Br Br to get new Broombush seeds. Alm Br Alm Harvest Almonds to pick up more Sylkis/Mandrake. Syl Br Syl Plant Sylkis to breed with Broombushes to make Thav.Onions/Shroud Tea. Br Br Sylkis grow faster, so harvest them first then plant Almonds. Syl Br Syl Almonds will breed with Broombushes to make more Broombush seeds. Alm Br Alm Broombushes should finish growing before Almonds do. Br Br Plant Krakkas in their place. Alm Br Alm Alm Kr Alm Repeat. Kr Kr Alm Kr Alm

It's still worth a shot since Nymeia only requires one cross compared to the alternatives.
Thanks for the advice! So far, it's any "G3" chocobo food with a G3/4 non-choco food.

Which grade plants can give more seeds when using Shroud soil do you think? xAlice got 5 tantalplant seeds when using it.
Not sure I want to risk getting so many Shroud Tea seeds, so I just might try to make Mandragora Queen from Nymeia Lily later or try and make more Sylkis Buds...
Edit:
Also, did anyone else try to get Thanvairian onion from Eggplant Knight + Onion Prince?

Does anyone have a list of what crosses have been attempted with Thav Onions? I'd like to help test things to find the loop, but not sure what has already been tried.
Some of those are here. Only Gyshal Greens seem to be obtained.
I don't normally use Shroud soil, so I can't speak from personal experience. But from what I understand, only the "G4" plants don't benefit from Shroud soil at all. Jute/Glaze/Broom and probably Thav.Onions are all restricted to yields of one plant and one seed. Maybe minions are also of the same tier, but they're so much easier to make.. and your inventory would be broken if you could harvest multiples off of a single seed.Which grade plants can give more seeds when using Shroud soil do you think? xAlice got 5 tantalplant seeds when using it.

If you're using Shroud soil with anything else, you increase the plant yield; crossbreeding occurs at a default low rate and gives multiple seeds when it happens, so far. I think Shroud soil is fine to use if crossbreeding is just a bonus on the side for you, like if you're really after producing a lot of Krakkas while growing them next to other things for a low chance of getting Sylkis/Curiel/Mimett/Tantalplant/Pahsana. Relying on it for seeds sounds like a gamble.
If you're really after the seeds, then by all means you want Grade 3 Thanalan Soil.
Side note, if Mandragora Queens are like a couple of other minions reported about, then crossing them with Almonds could give you some Jute to work with.
I see. I might be out of luck this time then.
Also got Eggplant Knight + Mandrake = Pearl Roselle too.

So far I've been using Shroud 3 soil for my Krakka's to get a nice stock for our fc, and using Thanalan 3 for the plants planted next to them for crossbreeds. So far almost all of the secondary plants have given me seeds, while the Krakka's have just been giving me lots of Krakka's. I got multiple pearl ginger seeds from a harvested Krakka plant once, but that would make it something like....1/24(ish? probably even more, and counting). All in all not something I'd like to gamble on.
