    Novus Help

Man, with all the readings, I'm more confused than anything.

Curtana Novus (should I max ACC or Parry first?)
Shield Novus (currently have 9 Parry on it, max 13) Should I get 13 ACC to max the shield?

Now, I don't have the Noct Lorica yet (sand of time in progress )

    ACC 497, Det 243, Def 766, Parry 506, Att power 384, SSpeed 389.

    STR 384, DEX 192, VIT 558.

I am far from T9, T5 needed to clear. So High Allangan out for a while.

ACC-Parry Max or not? If so, Parry or ACC?

Det (Mine is so low, would it even be worth it?)

I want to be able to hit (with food I can tackle the 519 for T9, but I am planning for the future), maintain aggro, changing armor more than weapon.

    What would you guys think?

Thanks in advance; don't want to screw it up even if I can redo it later $$$ no thank you.

I did Acc till it was the same as Curtana Animus, and the rest parry. I maxed Acc on the shield, too.

I didn't feel like breaking a bunch of Heavens' Eye IV materia for my sword. e.e

    Thx Ashkendor.

Since I have 9 Parry on my shield, I had planned on maxing ACC on it.

    Was Curious about Curtana.

Max ACC could be overkill for now, but with the upcoming patches, It could be a good thing not having to worry too much about it.

I Wonder if DET could be worth for aggroing purposes..

But all in all, it would just be in-the-waiting of the next set of weapons and: the next Relic quest upgrade.

    Nice work mate.

Det is typically a pretty low stat, but it's effect on DPS scales linearly. As I understand it, you always benefit more or less the same amount from adding more det, where other skills have diminishing returns at high values.

My view on the novus weapon is that if you're going to bother with it at all, you should make it complement the other options for end game to give you the most flexibility in your gear sets. But I don't really think there's a wrong way to do it if you're putting appropriate stats on it, at least until we know how future upgrades will work. Even without spending soldiery on and upgrading the burtgang/noct hoplon you can hit 519 without food and without any accuracy from your MH/OH, so it's all a quesiton of how much effort you want to put into juggling the rest of your gear.

Acc is a very good idea. I still have to shuffle gear around for turn 9 to hit 515. The second stat I'm still scratching my head about. Parry is the only defensive secondary but it scales like crap and blocks dilute it even more. As block rate goes up with gear progression parry loses even more value. Then you have the problem with parries just leading to over curing since they are not predictable.

My gut keeps telling me to do parry but my math says do det.

Honestly, what kept me from doing det is that the materia for it are 3-4 times more expensive.

You are capped acc for the content you are on. You can easily get the acc you need for second coils by swapping out gear options and gaining early drops and using food. Personally I wouldn't suggest spending on heavens eye IV for acc you don't need. Future content will come along with gear with higher acc with options for those who did not meld their weapon with acc.

There is some argument against capping parry as well. One being that the dps checks in second coils are pretty harsh and the extra crit/det would do more to help your group than having that damage mitigation. Going in to T6-7 I was surprised at how easy healing was. The stress seemed more on the dps to really push through for us. T8 was the first turn I felt the pressure in healing and the absolute need to upgrade my gear (as healer). The tank upgrades certainly helped as well.

TL;DR If I were going for curtana novus I would go crit/det/acc with nothing spent on materia IV.

I agree with what you said. However PLD DPS MTing isn't helping in any turn. (PLD MTing DPS is horrible and needs a fix but that's different discussion) I have 13 T6-8 clears and have seen 0 left side HA drops, banking on Coil RNG isn't the best idea.

Tanks have the highest ACC demands. They also have, at the moment, great swap options for capped ACC. Noct head, HA hands, Noct Legs, HA body not to mentions right side pieces.

Capping ACC or close like Ashkender would be very wise. Doing a Det/Crit Hybrid is also a good idea if someone decides against Parry.

Yep, that was basically my thought. I was looking to the future when I chose to stack up ACC. When they introduce new content, I'd rather go in with capped ACC than struggle to hold enmity because I keep missing. Not to mention I'm in full Noct, so I don't have a whole lot of ACC on my armor pieces (I'm at 522 without food).

As far as Parry, like I said it was the option that hurt my wallet the least and more damage reduction is never a bad thing to have. Would Det/Crit have been better in the long run? Maybe, but if you're relying on a single tank in Shield Oath to help push you through critical DPS checks, there's kind of a problem there. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference to my damage that I should invest so much in materia. Even the III's are pricey. e.e

Yeah if your working on any of the i110 sets for PLD, you can have quite a bit of extra accuracy (I'm sitting around 563 at i108), but in retrospect you need to worry about what's coming down the line as the i115/i120 set might nearly be devoid of any accuracy. Anyways, I ended up going the DPS stat route with ACC, Crit, and Det, partially because the DPS between tanks and melee jobs are starting to grow pretty significantly, and I tend to value Parry as about half as valuable than most secondary stats because it can be devalued to nothing depending on how magically inclined your target is (IE: Ramuh).
