What were people bit- ...complaining about with these being "different" again on the forums? They look almost the same, just another case of people over reacting I guess... no surprise there.

They complain when a set looks pretty much the same on male and females, and complain when they look different on males and females... Not sure what would make them not complain.
Not even all naked would make the complaints go away I suspect...
A bit of that and the other way around. Some people didn't like 'gender locked' looks, some thought both looked the same and thought it was just another copy & paste.
I think this solves both, some changes so they don't look exactly the same, but small enough so no one complains about gender locked looks.

Eh, the two are similar but not the same.
I can tell that the female version is on the right and the male version is on the left simply by the design.
However, there are subtle differences between Lala males and females. ^^
Anyroad, personally, I like the subtle differences in the armor between males and females.... now if they could only fix the weathered blm/smn look... the tutu is hideous on every race and the tail pole on the miqote is disturbing...

My first high ilvl drop (I'm usually in crafted gear, only started buying gear with tomes recently, rarely run dungeons) was Scylla's culottes of healing. I burst out in embarrassed laughter when I saw my female char wearing them after expecting them to look somewhat like their respectable looking icon. They were also the first item I've ever glamoured, which I did immediately <_<
I've also had trouble with my character's breasts threatening to fall out of tops and the like but that's been easier to ignore than the outright underwear several outfits resemble. That may be perfectly suitable for a bikini or lingerie but when a squishy SCH is trying to survive a hit, it shouldn't be their chest the tank is thinking of.
I'm prudish and I know it. I don't pass judgement on how others wish to present themselves, that's their business and I've seen some really creative outfits made out of underwear combined with spring skirts for example. I simply have my own taste and wish many of my choices weren't limited to underwear or frilly pink bows ;P

Avoiding the over-sexualization is one reason I chose to play a Lalafell... that and they're adorable. I couldn't play a Miqo'te as every outfit makes you look like a 'lady of negotiable favour'.
FFXIV is pretty much the tamest game your going to see in the MMO market. Your dillerious if you think that this game is over-sexualised. Obviously there will be exceptions but that's like me complaining that some gear for Monk makes me look like a bondage gimp.

This game isn't too bad, considering if there is a scanty clad outfit that the males can wear it too usually.
There are bikini's out there for women, but there are tops that allow men to go basically shirtless too. Any over-sexualization sort of rests with the players more than the devs I think.
