Totally agree that taking the gamble out is a fine solution. Do X number of FATEs (30 is a fine number, but balance is always up to devs) and get an atma would be great. Though, if they won't take the gamble out, they need to provide incentive for people to continue. Not make it crazy easy, but make it certainly better for people who have completed an atma to get more atma.

    .
Im still on animus (5th book) and thinking how bad ( gameplay wise and design) the whole thing is.

In order to power up your weapon you need to do :

    Complete 27 specific dungeons
    Complete 27 specific FATES
    Complete 27 leves
    Slay 900 specified enemies
    Spend 13,500 tomestones

    Need I say more

I think Yoshi lost his compass somewhere along the road. His original vision for ARR was a world where the grind of FFXI didn't exist, and I tasted a bit of that world and loved it. It's what attracted me back to the game after a long hiatus since 1.0.

Now look at what's happening. Notorious monsters you can't fight because they're overcamped. Crafting tools which are only available after making 50 (!) high-quality, high-level items. Items which themselves happen to be useless for anything besides! Atma grinding with an extremely low drop chance, running the same boring Fates you've been doing since level 1 with literally no reward except pocket change and some useless seals.

Then, when you finally obtain your atma weapon... there's the books themselves. Each one cost 1500 myth (thats 15 high level dungeons to those who can't math) for a total of 135 full dungeon runs per animus. That's ignoring the fact that should you have other classes you want to gear up, you can't be spending your myth tomes on anything else, and the added nuisance of waiting on specific Fates to spawn to complete your books!

I'm okay with long term goals, but they could make the climb more interesting. As Yoshi stumbled on blindly without his compass, he seemed to forget that running the same thing over and over and over again is not fun. Mix it up a little, make it an interesting, fun climb. Most people would be happy with it taking a long time, as long as they're enjoying the ride.

The relic quest line isn't needed, you can get UAT weapons or coil weapons etc. it's a choice you make to persue.

Really, all I see in this thread is, for the most part, "i want what other people have accomplished but I don't want to work for it like they did."

If you can't stomach the grind beyond your feelings of entitlement, move along.

Completing x fates to obtain an atma would still keep it grindy (360 fates per weapon, 3240 for all nine weapons) only suggestion i have to add would be to allow atma to stack.

Its a choice that shouldn't exist in the first place. Kill 900 enemies is just wrong

This kind of reply is what kills me. We are talking about the most popular weapon in the entire game and the fact it forces you to put up with stuff like killing level 5 efts for the next 120 hours, and that's the best you guys got..."you don't have to do it". Right, we don't, in fact, no one has to even play this game, but guess what? We are all playing it, and if there's something we don't like we have the right to say we don't like it, because that's what a forum is for. It makes me cry every time I help a fresh player get his way to 50, start the relic reborn, we always make it up until Titan HM, he collects his 900 myth, and when I tell him what's the next step (atma) that person automatically quits. It has happened with 3 friends of mine already (one of them being my brother). It has NOTHING to do with entitlement, it's just something that is NOT fun (yes, bolded and in capital letters) and people simply refuse to do it. SE does not realize the atma quest does FAR more harm than good to this game, it remains unchanged. Makes me very sad how they are unable to see it.

Arguably Hunts might count as unique in the Novus stage but not really. Got my Novus today and I guess it's nice having customized stats but after 2.3 you can just run ST for a stone, save soldiery for 3 weeks, do a couple of hunts for the sand and get a comparable weapon faster and way way cheaper too. So much for meaningful long term goals, which doesn't really mean anything because 2.4 will introduce 20 more iLVs and devalue all current gear once again.
TBH, there isn't anything casual about the Atma farm. It takes less time to learn an EX fight with a good group that has the right attitude than it does to treadmill out an atma.
