Final Fantasy players who thought we were in Eorzea instead of Azeroth. I don't know why he's so bent on calling it Rogue, anyway. It's not even like there is a different connotation around the class, but I guess it's just like Musketeer versus Corsair. I would still play it, but why do we have to trade in a classic name for a rock stupid one? All in the name of "being different from XI"? Because yea, that worked out so freaking well for them at launch.
I think the players he should worry about first are the ones willing to spend money for a decade on a game that punishes them because they love the lore and the world so much - the actual core FF playerbase that moved on from XI to the new one... not the script kiddies who want to play a ROUGE.
To be fair Ms Souljacker, Yoshida stated from the get go his intention was to create a WoW clone for the Japanese audience (not the exact words of "WoW clone", but he did say to basically bring the "experience and gameplay style" to Japan.)And ffs I just hope it's not another stealth based class like in WoW. This game is getting more and more like WoW that I am seriously thinking about just going back when WoD hits. At least over there they have a clue how not to tick off their playerbase. I can't imagine them hemming and hawing about whether to call something a name from their own established lore or a name from some other game that has nothing to do with Azeroth.
Look at Summoner.
There are like 70 jobs if not more in the franchise, they can't put all of them very time. Old jobs get reworked (Scholar is nothing like the Scholar from FFTA2; why are Arcanists using books instead of Seers?) and new one are introduced... It's how it's always been.

They can pull the jobs that exist in the series as is..though. Also, Scholar is nothing like the one in FFIII or FFXI either - Which they're using Grimoires because that was traditionally what they used to begin with (Books and Staves/Rods) but that's neither here nor there.
New ones are introduced...when they're actually new and not just a "different brand" - Rogue is more of what you'd call an 'Assassin' without calling them assassins in MMORPGs, Thieves are more linked to FF job wise since they tend to also have some difference - Rogue rarely had steal/mug type abilities, as stated.
And they have, along some new ones. Like they do all the time.
Rogue is whatever they want it to be, since it's a new job for the Final Fantasy franchise. And as far as overlapping with existing FF jobs, that's not uncommon.New ones are introduced...when they're actually new and not just a "different brand" - Rogue is more of what you'd call an 'Assassin' without calling them assassins in MMORPGs, Thieves are more linked to FF job wise since they tend to also have some difference - Rogue rarely had steal/mug type abilities, as stated.
Final fantasy xiv a realm rehashed: precious innovator of mmo concepts --why take a look at this class that has already existed since the everquest 1! The BLEEDING EDGE of gaming ideas!

In regards to the Rogue vs. Thief thing, I'm upset not because the Class isn't called "Thief", but because he's saying "It's the same thing, deal with it."
I want a Thief Job with a thief-style. I don't care for the Ninja-style really. And I think it could be done rather creatively to add another unique playstyle. There have been lots of good suggestions on the forums.
All this crying about the word Thief, it's really quite amusing. Yoshi's given his reasons why you are not getting THIEF. Deal with it, it's not changing. The Rogue guild formed from thieves, so what's the big deal. It's the SAME THING, only the word is Rogue instead of Thief. I mean, jesus, I understand Thief is traditional for Final Fantasy but that IS what Rogue is. The lore is what it is and it's not going to change, and in all honesty it makes freaking sense.
I'd say you'd be safe up until the 35-40 range before people start wondering why you don't have your Job abilities that will be helping you be better. If I get in a party at 40+ while I level my Paladin and Warrior and see that one or both of my dps are gimping themselves, and ultimately the party, I will not be happy. I might stick with the party if they can still manage to dps well enough, but I'm of the mind that you should switch at 30 to get used to your new skills and learn how they work in dungeon groups. So that when you reach level 50 you know how to play your dps Job well.
People are responding to show they don't like the decision. No decision is set in stone. It's possible people will change their minds. Do you just go "okay" and accept every decision anyone makes in life, even if you don't care for it? Do you never try to explain to someone why you disagree? Especially considering his argument of "No one wants a thieves guild in their city" is rather moot since almost all the jobs don't have a set guild and most are some form of lost knowledge and skill. All this crying about the word Thief, it's really quite amusing.
