So, when are we going to get kicked from parties for not choosing ninja, and being "thief"? Immediately? Oh how convienient.

Yeah seriously SE, just make Thief a job alongside Ninja, and Rogue the class. Jobs don't have guilds, they have questlines. I don't see the conflict.

Make it a hidden guild. I don't care much one way or the other, call it what you want and I'll play it, but to say it can't fit is just silly. A underground guild sounds like a nice ring to me.

I don't know why so many people are upset that the class isn't Thief. Why would you want to have, I'm assuming, your favorite job be a useless class that is only there to advance to Ninja? The way I see it, Thief can't be put in the currently known world because it doesn't fit. So... why couldn't Thief come from a different land and be added in an expansion? At least then you'd actually get to play the job you are so up-in-arms about not being added.

I know I'd be more upset if my favorite job was a base class that I never got to play.

But when you think about it a lot of the current classes we have are stupidly meshed together like gladiator to paladin, what really an ancient pit fighter often slave suddenly upgrades to paladin because he was pure in soul and mind. Or really Yoshida really does a conjurer become a White mage because they wear a hood.

And less upset that the favorite job will not be included, ever? With just a half baked response of "just think thief in your head!" While eventually there will be nothing but ninja ai, ninja skills, and ninja gear, to look forward to?

Personally I think it's flat-out idiotic that it was even a conversation rogue vs thief. It's thief. It's been thief for over a decade. Why is it now rogue?

They should have made it thief based on 99% of the playerbase not even being able to SPELL rogue, nevermind it being a classic job based deeply in Final Fantasy lore.

And ffs I just hope it's not another stealth based class like in WoW. This game is getting more and more like WoW that I am seriously thinking about just going back when WoD hits. At least over there they have a clue how not to tick off their playerbase. I can't imagine them hemming and hawing about whether to call something a name from their own established lore or a name from some other game that has nothing to do with Azeroth.

Yoshida clearly said that thief is the rogue and that it will not become the second job of Rogue...neither they have any plan to introduce it later...
