Yeah, you just give them away to people who ask nicely. Right? <_<
So, possibilities:
- Rarely obtained from all XIV ventures (unlikely)
- Rarely obtained from specific XIV ventures (do we know if XIV FSH ventures have been done extensively?)
- Rarely obtained from Unhidden Leather Maps (very unlikely)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing specific Big Fish
- Rarely obtained from desynthing CT1 gear (they ARE desynthable)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing the new Divine gear from the new dungeons (these are also desynthable)
- Rarely obtained from desynthing the new Sea Breeze swimsuits (X_X) (actually, I think this one is most likely)
- Rarely obtained from using the phrase "Rarely obtained" too many times in a forum post (testing this one out now)
Anyone else have ideas?
EDIT: I think the three best ideas are from desynthing CT1 gear, from desynthing Divine gear, and from desynthing the new Sea Breeze swimwear. I'd better pick a class to run CT1 as to get some gear to desynth...

From an ethical standpoint: This would imply that you know exactly how to obtain said items, and you all presumably play the game yourselves. Do you use that knowledge to your advantage when playing, or to you take a sort of hands off approach (meaning avoiding obtaining them) until the knowledge becomes more public?
i heard rumors of these dropping from unhidden treasure maps... but who knows.
Summer is going to be over by the time we're able to figure out how to obtain Waterproof Cotton.![]()
The ventures themselves are new but the old top-tier venture was the same value.
It's actually not too hard since you only have to meld gathering onto their gear which means only certain slots need to be melded. You can also use random i55+ all classes accessories since they cap out at higher gathering values and retainers don't need GP.

To go along with my last post, I just did a tally of endgame equipment to see what high level equipment could be desynthed. I figure one of the i80+ (non-craftable) items that are desynthable are likeliest to yield waterproof cotton.
Desynthable:
- i80: Labyrinth of the Ancients gear (head, body, legs, arms, belt, feet)
- i80: Divine gear from the new dungeons (all armor slots, including accessories)
- i80: Ultima (rings and neck)
- i1: Sea Breeze swimwear
NOT Desynthable:
- i110: High Allagan gear
- i110: Unweathered Soldiery gear
- i100: Weathered Soldiery gear
- i100: Syrcus Tower gear
- i100: PvP "Animal" gear
- i100: Hellwolf PvP accessories
- i100: Judgement rings
- i100: Ribbons (from Moggle Mog Ex)
- i90: Allagan gear
- i90: AF2 (Myth) gear
- i90: Direwolf PvP gear
- i90: Primal accessories (Tremor, Inferno, Vortex)
- i70: New GC gear from trading in Allied Seals
As to which classes are best for desynthing these items:
- ARM: 19 (9 Divine, 10 LotA)
- LTW: 24 (16 Divine, 8 LotA)
- WVR: 28 (9 Divine, 16 LotA, 3 Sea Breeze)
- GSM: 40 (26 Divine, 2 LotA, 12 Ultima, 1 Sea Breze)
I think the GSM accessories won't give anything interesting. Here's the breakdown of the drops for the rest, which I'll use to determine what desynth class to focus on based on my mains:
- PLD/WAR Needable: ARM 9 (5 Divine, 4 LotA), 1 LTW (1 Divine), WVR 1 (1 LotA), GSM 1 (1 LotA)
- DRG Needable: ARM 8 (4 Divine, 4 LotA), LTW 3 (2 Divine, 1 LotA), WVR 1 (1 LotA)
- MNK Needable: LTW 5 (4 Divine, 1 LotA), WVR 7 (2 Divine, 5 LotA)
- BRD Needable: ARM 2 (2 LotA), LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA)
- BLK/SMN Needable: LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 6 (2 Divine, 4 LotA), GSM 1 (1 Divine)
- SCH/WHM Needable: LTW 5 (3 Divine, 2 LotA), WVR 5 (2 Divine, 3 LotA), GSM 2 (1 Divine, 1 LotA)
So, this means that if it turns out to be obtained by desynthing LotA gear, then the "best" way to gather it is to run it as MNK and choose WVR as your desynth class. 5/6 items you get there as a MNK are desynthable with WVR.
If you like tanking the most and want quick(ish) queue times, obviously go ARM regardless of which set of items turns out to work (if either turn out to be either!)
BRD is evenly split between the three in LotA, and between LTW and WVR with the Divine items, so this is no help if you're of the spoony variety.
If you're a caster or healer, WVR is the best if it turns out to be LotA gear that works, and LTW if it turns out that it's actually Divine gear.
If you think it's rather likely you get it from the Sea Breeze set, go with WVR.
Hmm. Please let us know what you get if you try desynthing any of these! I haven't leveled any of those three desynth classes yet, sadly![]()

Kudos to giving no hints or anything, Grekumah! It's nice to see this generation of MMO players squirm when they don't have a strategy guide right at their fingertips XD
I keep pressing the win button...
But it's broken
