Out of general curiosity. What is it about the rest of the HUD that causes complications?
the black/dark filling on the chat box and party list are the biggest offenders. then the Limit Break gauge. and then the radar. the issue is that they are causing too much image retention on the plasma tv. if i play this game for more then 2 or 3 hours per day, the image retention becomes rather laden. i am not trying to ruin a tv just for this game.
it's funny how Square Enix never considered this sort of thing as a possible complication for any plasma owner. they releasing a game on a console generation where it is common to own a plasma TV. but did nothing to prepare for it. static images that are either too dark or too contrasting are not good for plasma displays.

Gotcha - Well I wouldn't say they never though about it. The issue is what percentage of the player base is seen as significant enough to pour the time and money into creating a fix. Plasma TVs are getting phased out very quickly with the rise of 4K LED TVs. This tells me it's unlikely they'll take any sort of immediate action. 1080p LED TVs are coming down in price quite a bit so my recommendation would have to be buying a new TV. Not strictly so you can play FFXIV but (most) LED TVs produce a nicer picture than plasma. So overall it'd be a quality of life upgrade for you, no?
When all is said and done, I hope the best for you and other players in your situation. I can definitely understand how it impacts the enjoyment of the game.
Well, the second point of Devante's original post here has been addressed, and at least you now can adjust the transparency/opacity of the chat box. Unfortunately, the lighter you make it (which would be easier on your TV) the harder it is to read.
Since you have to go into one of the settings windows (I forget at the moment whether it's in Character Settings or System Settings) to change the opacity slider, it's not exactly convenient to set it really light most of the time, but then darken it briefly when you're actually using it. You have to find a balance point somewhere in between being too light to read and too dark for your TV to maintain without image retention.
I agree, though, a feature to let you toggle the chat box on/off would be nice. So would the ability to move the chat box like we can most other UI features.
yeah. i know about the transparency option for the chat box. also you can move the chat box. just left click and hold on a tab name then drag.
Any word on auto-hiding chat box?

I'd actually like to just hide the chat entirely. This is my work around at the moment. lol

Square Enix! :-x
[Suggestion] Chat log Auto hide

bump
we still want this SE.
well, they added the option to manually hide it. but this is only HALF useful. why in the world they couldn't just implement auto-hide is beyond me. it must be a very difficult thing to do >_>
