I find the lack of "role-playing" disturbing.

What is role playing? I don't understand i hear it from time to time but i never understood what it is.

At its most basic level, it simply means staying in character, saying what your character would say and doing what he/she would do, rather than talking about the game as being a game or about unrelated real-life topics.

Some people go beyond that basic into developing extensive histories of their characters, and how they came to be where they are. (Ironically, this ends up leading some of them to abandoning the basic "staying-in-character" aspect of roleplaying, so that they can tell their stories to each other instead. There's a fair amount of overlap between roleplayers and storytellers, though, so sometimes the two playstyles are lumped together and both referred to as RP.)

That could be another part of typical RPing, and some take it too far with erotic roleplay (ERP).

....... or whenever I hear the term "derp", I think "dynamic erotic role play" or "detailed erotic role play". Haha! Try to get that out of your head now XD

Seriously, RPing a relationship, being married, and even having offspring is standard RP fare. You'll even find generations of characters here on FFXIV.

I think two days ago on I was near Little Ala Mhigo and there were approximately 15-20 people standing around in swimsuits talking about something or other; I didn't follow it because I was on my way to farm mythril. And of course I can confirm every other Balmung player here: there are RPers 24/7 in the main cities if you just take a moment to look around.
You are definitely on the wrong server if you can't find any RP.

This is always an interesting subject to me. What makes ERP too far? If it's two consenting adults, what's it matter? It's just another writing style. And yea, some people get off to it (There's an entire website devoted to things like erotic literature.)

I'll be honest, I've ERP'ed before. And I do think that if both parties are comfortable with it, and it makes IC-sense, I don't mind letting ERP happen. But, in my case?


A'rytiss Edar - This is my 'healer' IC-character. He's extremely pure and naive, and has actually turned down dating people multiple times (well, less turned down, and more go flustered and didn't know how to respond. And one of them would be 'too loose' for me to see him taking it on.)

Caex'ra Vaeriar - this character is actually in an IC relationship. I'd be fine ERP'ing on him if the IC dictated it.

The only thing I don't ever do is just go to Ul'dah and sit around with a search comment that says 'Mature RP' looking specificly for ERP. It's all about the story for me.

Two reasons:
First, you can't guarantee the age of the person you're ERPing with (to SE's satisfaction, how do they know you two know each other, etc.)
Second, if ERP was condonable or encouraged by SE, the ESRB might need to change the rating on it.

Of course, play experiences may vary and stuff like that. Everyone has their own opinion, and publicly displaying ERP in-game (which I should've stated earlier, my bad) is just bad form in my opinion.

For the first... there's really nothing garunteed about the internet. You can't even garuntee they're actually a girl/guy (heh.) This is probably a subconcious reason as to why I don't go looking for ERP - I only do so with someone when it makes IC sense, because by that point, I know them well enough and would likewise feel uncomfortable if I did ERP with someone who was underage.

Ah, I see, I was just misunderstanding you then. XD ERP should -never- be publicly posted. It is to be kept to either /p, or /t if it's in-game. Anyone who does it in public should be reported, because there are LOTS of people who don't want to see that kind of stuff (Basically like porn at that point.)

that said, I really use the world's props and environment to role-play by myself or have mini role-play spurs with other players.

To the best of my knowledge, it means forcing anyone within /say distance of an Adventurer's Guild to read your fan fiction. Make sure everything you type is littered with superfluous apostrophes to the point that it becomes nearly unreadable, but not so unreadable that it's mistaken for an RMT advertisement.
