I'm not sure what to make of this. There is still no talk of patches after 2.4, but this comment is implying that there is a significant amount of more main scenario.

Also, there is confirmation that the binding coil story will reach a firm resolution before the new expansion.

The next phase of Crystal Tower is the last. Eureka is implied to be implemented in a way other than 24 man dungeon as "Eureka is more of a treasure trove than an actual dungeon."

Perhaps the expansion will continue more of the main story? I would assume that the expansion would focus on a completely new story, rather than continue the existing one.

Also, the expansion will be version 3.0, right?

After completing the new story quest for 2.3 and Syrcus Tower, they both tie in together along with I imagine the Binding Coil.the story arc will continue with probably a rather devastating new story arc in 3.0.

I don't see what so confusing. We already knew the 2.x content patches would run up to at least 2.5 as we get the conclusion to coil in 2.4 and the conclusion to crystal tower in 2.5. So of five major patches between release and the expansion we're sitting dead in the middle on the third i.e. halfway.

As for the story itself we won't be seeing a major resolution or conclusion to the overall story before the expansion. We've already been told that Shiva's confrontation would be the event to lead into the expansion and that Zodiark won't be dealt with until much later.

The expansion will almost certainly be pay-for. It won't cost as much as a "full" game, but it will likely have a price tag attached to it (in part because it will be a huge piece of new content that goes far beyond our already-meaty patches).

well Yoshida mentioned more than once that the expansion will have as much content as the game so far, so it seems only fair for it to have a price tag. Eorzea is, after all, merely a continent on Hyedalyn so they have all the space they want to expand beyond the bnorders, when they choose to.
Of course, it's a big big planet but everything so far happened on a spec of land we saved time and again. time to export the family business

Not to mention that there's still a lot of unexplored areas in Eorzea.
Half of Mor Dhona is missing, 80% of Coerthas and Ishgard, Dravania, the Sharlayan city-state, Xelphatol, Gyr Abania/Ala Mhigo, and Paglth'an.

I wouldn't be surprised if the first expansion actually unlock those areas before opening a new continent.

Eorzea isn't even a continent. It's a region of the Aldenard continent, which also includes Sharlayan, Garlemald, and Doma, as I recall. Those places would be rife for opening up before a new content is introduced.
