Hunts were a terrible/irresponsible idea

Are you talking about an actual thing here? I know this was common in World of Warcraft. However it wasn't half as bad as hunts because the rare mobs just dropped little toys and various things. So they'd be contested but not half as contested as these hunts will continue to be.

Those things have been around for 12 years to help locate, teleport to, and claim NMs if you're new to FF MMOs. I still don't bother trying with this current system though, cuz I only managed to get to one of those S marks twice in 6 hours and gave up.

Yeah I just googled it, I guess it was added into FFXIV-APP some months ago, you're talking about it like the FFXI app was just ported over at launch or something. Though I think you might be overestimating the effect of it, I think most people are using linkshells and locs. I mean can you get individual mob spawn alerts?

You're right about what most people are probably doing, but not about how useful those tools are. I played XI for seven years on PC HNMing and no, you cannot overestimate their effects.
