I'm curious to see where they go with Coil. They've progressed relatively deep with the story and it ties in with 1.0 pretty well atm. That said, what is there to do after it ends? Where will the top difficult content be?

Crystal Tower is going to see its end soonish because (as FFIII goes) The Dark World should come next in the CT saga. I'm excited for it, but it marks the end of this series. Of course, we haven't even had an "expansion" in the traditional sense yet, so there is always potential for that. If SE wants to drag on the CT saga though, I'm okay with that. I thoroughly enjoy it.

This is a fairly interesting question. My knee-jerk reaction is that it will be like any long running MMO and the expansion will release a new story line, complete with new villains to fight and new dungeons to crawl; completely separate from 2.x content. On the other hand, FFXIV seems to have made a tradition of continuing one long, on-going, story line. I would not be surprised if the next big tier in difficulty was somehow related to the Coil. Given the things we currently have to work with - what information we have about the world - I personally would go with a raid on the Void. They've set up the possibility well between the main plot, the Crystal Tower plot, and the primal stuff. They could very easily make it necessary to raid a small section of the Void.
