hotels and flights can be cancelled, and are always cheaper booked in advance. the farther away the event (timeline wise) the cheaper your rooms and flights are.

can't speak for everyone else... but i wanted to get the best price possible and i honestly didn't think it would be this impossible to get tickets... i knew the tickets would go fast but this was crazy

Perhaps but most plane tickets and hotel reservations are non refundable (at least here) and while booking it far in advance is going to get you it somewhat cheaper leaving yourself 2-3 months is still plenty of time.

Wanted to ensure I got a hotel room close to the event at lower prices. Plane tickets are far cheaper this far in advance as well. I wasn't thinking getting a ticket to the event would be THIS much of an issue. They really borked this whole endeavor, imo.

Not always. I actually looked 5 weeks ago (or whenever it was at E3 when they announced where/when it was going to be) into booking at the Rio itself so I could stay at the hotel the fest was in, there were only 5 rooms left at that point. I passed because I made arrangements to stay with family down there to save money, but i've booked months in advance for flights too, and picked up the last seat. There's no strangeness in booking hotel/flights months in advance. If anything, it's smarter to do that. Granted, i'm probably not going to get to go because it timed out on me 3 times and then website went offline but I understand booking with the plan to most likely end up getting tickets (which, yes, isn't a guarantee, but a lot of people didn't expect this to be this popular. I did)

Man, I booked flight/hotel as soon as the Las Vegas date was announced. This is seriously disappointing, especially after making it into the purchase page at 10:31 PDT and then immediately getting kicked out of the page and the website.
Guess I really shouldn't have gotten my hopes up so high, though. Would have made the crushing disappointment easier to take, and I wouldn't have wasted a vacation day off of work just to buy the tickets.![]()
I think those of us who were in queue with ordered being "processed" should get a personal email with a direct chance of purchasing our tickets individually before they are rereleased to everyone else. I'm sure there must be some server record of codes that were used and successfully at least got to the next step, or *something*. :\ I was in three times: when the site said there were over 1200 tickets left, around 500, and 4. Every time it timed out. Once i got the timer that told me i had over 13 minutes left to enter my information. I have to wonder why my ticket wasn't reserved, at least until that 13 minutes was up.
A lot of hotels allow cancellations a week before the event, but a lot of airline tickets do not.
I know when I had bought my airline ticket to Japan almost 7 months in advance, there was a disclaimer stating that it was non refundable unless I wanted to reschedule my flight it with a large penalty fee.

I DEMAND TO KNOW WHERE THE ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE MADE!!! @*#($&*#($&*#$)#$(#$(#$)$)$)#* I get off of work in 30 mins. 15 mins. commute and 3 mins to open up my browser at home!!! GODS!!!!

At least when general ticket sales go up there's guaranteed to be scalpers, so there's always hope for the desperate?
