So, as it stands, I can get 75 Alexandrites - for free - for my weapon. However, if each one were worth 1 million gil, then by using them for my weapon, I'm not selling them. Since I'm not selling them, that's 75 million gil I didn't make.

Therefor, my weapon is worth 75 million gil.

Like, the time it would take to actually gain those 75 millions gils compared to the real time you spent gathering alexandrites.

I don't know what world you live in but everything in the game costs gil.

Tier 4 materia for your novus alone will run you around 5 mil. Ignoring the 1s, 2s, and 3s.

If someone is the kind of person who will cheat and cut corners to get ahead, then they're going to buy gil no matter what. There is more than enough stuff you could make the case that it "promotes" gil buying, adding new content doesn't increase or decrease that fact.
