The phrase "casting lots" sounds stupid even when not in regards to this game. I refuse to ever use it.

Wow, people must be bored to be arguing this much over terminology. I must be bored to since I'm replying.

DPS is the term officially adopted for FFXIV, it's not just people randomly picking terms (like lotting).

They're not really "randomly picking terms". Outside of the MMO world, "casting lots" and "rolling dice" are literally the same thing. People pick up habits from previous games they've played in terms of terminology they use. Both of these are equally valid, one is just less common than the other.
