This thread belongs in the large "This is why we can't have nice things" pile.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with exclusive items being tied to promotional and/or fan events. That's how companies generate additional sales and they've been doing that for years and will continue to. Heaven forbid Yoshi-P, the devs, and SE try to reach out and have fun with the fans of the game in a physical venue.

There IS nothing wrong with them selling the stuff on the MogStation though(along with Collector's Editions item keys) well after the event for reasonable prices that don't shaft the fans who actually went to the events and bought the exclusive stuff(and I don't see why they wouldn't if it generates more profit). But if it doesn't happen? Oh well. Live with it.

I don't think it is sugar coating it. Most people can go, they just choose not to spend the extra money or choose not to put the effort into going.

The 10%, 5%, or 1% that absolutely can't go are similar statistics to the 10%, 5%, or 1% that could absolutely not complete the DQ/ff11 quest lines back in January. People miss out on stuff in game and out of game for extenuating circumstances. Fan fest is no different.

When the dust settles and all the tickets are sold, there is only going to be a handful of players going to fan fest. However, right now, 100% of the player base has the same chance to buy a ticket. Of those 100% of players who can buy a ticket, only a small percent actually cannot go due to some extreme circumstance. People who cannot save for a yearly vacation probably don't have much of a budget for video games anyway. If I could not afford to go on vacation a few times a year, I certainly would not be throwing $18.00 a month at this game.

That's how it is with conventions. It's like complaining that you can't buy rare goods or receive special promotional trinkets because you couldn't attend e3 or Comic Con. Some people DO spend thousands of dollars going to these things, because they're that dedicated about it... or they just like to travel.

And from what the OP was saying about Blizzard selling those convention goods, unless things have changed in the last year or two, is not entirely true. The Grunty pet, for example, was (I think) the first promotion item they offered for their live stream paid access to Blizzcon a number of years ago, if you bought the virtual ticket. As far as I know, it's no longer available for purchase. Prior to that, no one was given these promotional goods unless they attended (or bought it off of someone on ebay). FFXIV isn't exactly the same as WoW when it comes to attendees, given the language barrier and obviously lower player population, if anything.

They probably don't see a point to rush a live stream service, especially when you consider, again, the language barrier. Not really a big deal for those that speak English when they host a convention in the west, but it's not exactly opportune for their primary audience in Japan. Likewise, when they hold a convention in Japan, not exactly opportune for those of us in the west that don't speak Japanese. Hiring translators for every little thing costs money. There's just a lot more planning and charges to consider when you deal with live stream service than what they feel is currently worth doing.

The big issue in this thread seems to be a life lesson that I (and I thought many others) have learned when I was in grade school -- life isn't fair.

No, I likely won't be able to make it to FanFest. Do I feel *entitled* to receive the event's exclusive in-game item? Absolutely not. No matter how much I really want the item. That item should be a special token for only those able to make the event. I can only imagine how I'd feel flying to Vegas to attend the event only for the item to be available on the Mog Station 3 days later.

Life isn't fair, people. It's the ugly truth. Whether you learn to accept that virtual fact or not is nobody's problem but your own.

As I said previously in a much early page,

People tend to think they are entitled to everything currently and I hope SE is not a company to continue the trend that some companies tend to do.

And when I say that, I am referring to the whole game and not this specific Fan Festival.

NOTE: I have never been to a single Fan Festival, Blizzcon, and SOE Live and have played ALL their games.

okay, you people who keep saying more items in a cash shop are just leading the way to "pay to win" just stop, more items in a cash shop do not denote "pay to win" unless they give an advantage. I for 1 do not see things like fan fest items(so long as they do not give an advantage) or past exclusives such as the lightning event items as problems.

now this thread was started with the idea to allow some of us who cannot go to the fan festival as a way to get the ingame item or items. there are a couple ways they could do this
    1. cash shop/the mogstation
    2. virtual ticket that allows us to stream the event and watch it and also get the in game item.
    3. they could do events on the worlds that would allow us to get the items like they did with the cactaur and bomb earrings.

my vote would be for them to do something like #3 or maybe #2
whatever SE decides to do isnt up to us but showing interest if you would like the item or items is never a bad idea though

hmm well, i didnt read all things but a few so heres my opionion:

pretty much what Kalelius here said. life isnt fair. yes we all are paying for the sub..but the ppls who go to the fan thing
is paying sub + spening all that money n time off work etc, to even join the event. i am poor as mofo so i cant even think about going lol.
i mean it sucks, some ppl have more money than others. you cant get everything. i actually like things to be exclusive some of the time.
that being said, blizzard and se 2 totally dif companies so eh lol. there will be other chances to get new items and stuff.
    so yea!

Personally, I would be totally okay with them adding the items to the cash shop. I'd be willing to pay $30 for the items.

That said, I realize that they're very unlikely to do it, as they haven't in the past. So, if anyone who is going does NOT want their in-game items, send me an email (check my profile) and we'll see if we can work something out.
