    Going for specific BLUe magick. 1000 needles would probably need a long cooldown it ciuld out-damage any other DPS in the game if it coulf be spammed.

    White Wind however is good despite and maybe because it heales based on the caster's current HP. So it can be decent even with low MND

    Sounds interesting, but with the wide range blue magic can have it should work as the hybrid role yoshi wants to implement, if you have different spells to chose from you could set, buff spells, debuff spells, damage spells, healing spells, dot spells, so blu should use a role that is not attached to one way of action, of course this is just theorycrafting.

    With a decent CD it wouldn't be very different from a blm critical proc, they can easily make 2-3k dmg.

    It definitely can be done.

    I had an idea I posted here a while ago (Flayer: Blue Mage & Beastmaster):

    It was crafted before Yoshi mentioned a Hybrid role possibility so its spells focused just on DPS choosing spells based on whether you wanted to dish out physical or magical damage.

    TL;DR for it is basically the Flayer learns 6 skill slots for 6 different classes in the games taxonomy (e.g. Beastkin, Vilekin). These slots can be filled with a spell used by the corresponding monster type (e.g. Vilekin Soul allows you to set a Vilekin spell like the chigoe's "Blood Drain") once it has been learned. The Flayer can only learn one spell per taxonomical class. When you equip the Blue Mage soul you gain additional taxonomical classes to learn and set spells for (i.e. Spoken, Voidsent) and you can learn 3-4 spells per taxonomical class. The general pattern for these is for each taxonomical class you can learn 1 buff, 1 magic spell and 1 physical spell. BLU can still only set one spell of the 3 it's learned for any one taxonomical class so it needs to plan ahead. Beastmaster turns those skills into pet summons but doesn't use pets the same way that SMN does. Instead it gains the advantage by swapping which pet it's using often and sheds its own enmity to its pet.

    I can't help but feel that if they introduce blue magic, it won't be at all like past FF games. I'm willing to bet each job quest will involve you go to a location, fight a monster, turn in the quest, and automatically unlock the skill. The "meat" of blue mage will just be the fighting style and not actually obtaining spells.

    How cool would it be to have smaller version of garuda tornadoes? Like how archanist has shadow flair, target area and wind damage over time =D that would be cool. Maybe get ifrit eruption, or his shock wave that knocks people back

    My suggestion took that into account. Sort of.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.

    Speed run? FORGET WAR, BLUE MAGE RUNS IN AND BLOWS HIMSELF UP TO KEEP AGRO!!!!

    But in all honesty, if they give it detonate as an aoe, make it come from Ul'Dah, and make the artifact gear sexy, i'm game.
