I personally don't see what the big deal is. It's not something that's meant to be rushed, and SE is slowly with each step making it more and more annoying to upgrade the Relic weapon because I'm guessing it's gonna be a pretty powerful piece, probably the most powerful weapon in the long run. Knowing SE very well by now, my advice would be to keep at it cuz after enough patches when the weapon is finalized, you're gonna be kicking yourself for not doing it. Do a little each day even aim for one a day it's not that bad.

OP: totally agree. Did some grinding near Aleport, for 1 week (3-5 hours per day, but cracked after 2 and switched to other content) Never did get the ATMA to drop. As the grind wore on, I spent less and less time on FFXIV. I was one of the first with the Behemoth mount, and I've been on since day one. Now, the only contact with FFXIV I have, is via the forums, and the searches for ATMA
Will not renew / update the game until the RNG gets fixed. I guess no more 6 month purchases at a time, since a dumb change like that killed the game for me. I have no problem with grinding, I have a problem with RNG. Flipping a coin, it's always 50% chance of heads. Doing it 5 times in a row, getting tails each time, does that alter the 6th throw chance distribution? NO. So, each time I dont get the ATMA, it's the same situation.
In any case, not complaining, just agreeing with the OP; and since i was searching for any ATMA changes, funny how weeks after I leave, this is STILL the first hit.
Love the defenders of this garbage.
The issue for me is the fact they designed the system in the first place. Then chose to keep it in, after the outrage.
It shows lack of customer feedback being taken seriously and that they are ao far out of touch with the player base it's scary.
... Like what?
The relic upgrade is supposed to be a long, time-consuming quest to serve as time-locked progression for people who are unable to do Second Coil. If you can do Second Coil, you probably already have a weapon just as good if not better than the equivalent relic. If you are going for your relic upgrade, then chances are you aren't doing Second Coil but have cleared the rest of the non-"endgame" content, so what else is left for you to do?
Nothing, that's what. That's why the relic upgrade quest is a long line of monotonous busywork, for people who want to progress but aren't skilled enough or aren't willing to do with the crap that comes with doing Second Coil. If you don't want to do either of those things, there is literally nothing left to do in the game.
With 2.2, they put all of their eggs in the progression basket, and then locked the majority of the playerbase out of the majority of the content. Then, instead of, say, creating some new side content and tying in relic progression into that to guarantee a certain amount of a traffic, they tied relic progression into doing exactly what you've already been doing, again and again and again, whether this is FATEs, myth grind, or whatever.
It's a terrible, backwards system and ignoring won't make it any better. The problem with the "if you don't like it, leave it" suggestion for MMOs is that they need as many people playing them as they can. I believe you'll find if you continue to support terrible content being made, and justify it to others by saying they are free to leave if they don't like it, then your server will be empty in a couple months.
This is especially trouble since it seems like 2.3 isn't going to change this tendency of introducing meaningless grind to buy time that they started in 2.2.

Here is my simple answer to all this.
What else would I do? Even if I skip it for now, its hanging over my head forcing me to do it in patch 2.95. I don't even want to think about spending the next year off and on farming this BS just to get it done. Especially once the ilvl of the item I'd get will be worthless in a patch or two.
And this isn't from people who played the game non stop then asked "and then what?" 2.2 was simply lackluster. All it had was a few story quests leading up to Leviathan, PvP adjustments, extra side quests for lower level players, the second coil, and the infamous Atma and Animus quests. There really wasn't much to do and Square knew Atma would keep people busy until next patch.
To be fair, that's all MMOs are... Grind for gear and be elite. Atma farming is no different than spamming T6+ for two months without getting the drop you want lol Well it is different, just slightly. You're just having bad luck is all, my first Atma took like 14 hours, but after that I got one every hour or two.

Never seen a ladybug do Heaven's Fall.

Ok well I recently was able to finally log into these forums and my advice is not to grind fates for atmas it may be RNG, but I had pretty good luck doing a bunch of fates not many and switching zones when I was tired of the zone. FC member also had good luck following my style for the atmas.
