Glowing gear (and giant shoulderpads & spikes, while we're on it) is something that is overused and not cool at all. As I said in another post, it looks cheap, weird, and simply screams "hey, look at me!". Most of the time it's not even functional, either.
Gramul nailed it with his explanation. That's how it should work but, of course, that would require more effort put into the designs. But, didn't we lose some aesthetical things from the 1.x version of the game so that we could have more gear designs? Recolours and glows don't count as proper designs, in my book.
I do not want overly large gaudy extra super ultimate ultra mega doom spikes spiked armour from wow....Glowing gear (and giant shoulderpads & spikes, while we're on it) is something that is overused and not cool at all. I just want glowy armour lol.

Also sorry for the offtopic![]()

Glows are just another lazy way to rehash stuff, in this case gear designs, it's also the mark of a cheaper MMO since it's easier and faster to code in a flashy glow effect than actually design unique gear, animations and effects. The new generation of MMO players loves them though, which is the audience this game is intended for so it can't be helped.

I sorely miss the real-world authenticity found in most of the FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 gear.
But sadly, ARR seems to be a shovel-fest of fan-service and gimmicks. Since the change to ARR, the gameplay has been stripped of any real depth.
To compensate, the dev strategy has apparently been to keep the kids distracted with progressively outlandish looking (but ultimately useless) trinkets. -- eg. Mounts, Minions, crazy looking gear, giant glowing weapons, outlandish housing furniture, vanity gear, etc, etc...
In fact, it probably won't be much longer until you'll see:
Everyone make way for Carnival del Eorzea -- soon to be running 24/7 on a server near you.

I find it odd that something aesthetic is so polarized. I just want some more options but this issue is clearly very polarized. Surprised so many are against that
I was okay with glowing weapons but the glowing armor just looks really stupid. I'm sorry.
