This is actually a suggestion i would accept if put in place. It would also make the world a little more alive, more random events should happen in game, everything right now is so predictable.Perhaps they should come up with a system that rewards players who decide to travel instead of taking the quick route with Anima. I don't usually like to bring up other games and their ideas, but in Guild Wars 2 they also have a fast-travel system. However, from what I've watched they also have a system that rewards you for taking the long route.
Things that could happen in the future:
You can still use your Anima to get where you're going
OR
You can take the long route, notice a platoon of Garlean soldiers camping near one of the Eorzean camps, and you are given the option to take up a quest that allows you to inform a VIP at the friendly camp so that they can make preparations for battle, or be on guard. The camp is indebted to you for the information, so you receive a reward (gil or SP, whichever).
What SE needs to do is to stop restricting and start rewarding on the other side of the fence. Same thing with Fatigue/Surplus. They are taking away what restricts us from being able to play how we want.
