ATMA: the worst thing ever made on A Realm Reborn

IMO the system is fine as it is - the problem is in players like you who are trying forcibly grind / farm FATEs for Atmas instead of playing it as it was intended by simply joining FATEs at random when you happend to pass by active one. I've started the quest only 2 weeks ago, since then I've joined about 10 - 12 FATEs max just because they were in progress right in front of my nose and I've already got two atmas for total time spent less than half hour WHILE enjoying doing some other content in the meantime instead of mindlessly running from FATE to FATE for week or months like drone. There's your problem ...

...Enjoy what other content? The limited raiding? The lunch-break primals? The same dungeons over and over? The also-mindnumbing crafting/gathering in order to stay on the competitive level in an economy specially tailored to -not- be required / needed?

In what world do you live in where you're out in the world and 'happen to pass by a FATE' when it's active?

You don't have to walk to Dungeons.
You aren't playing the market in the world where fates spawn.
Gathering is pretty much split up into quadrants so you're only going to 'pass by' maybe one fate if you're out gathering.
You don't wander by fates while PvPing. Given the reports on the god awful queue times, you're basically just fategrinding with a splash of PvP in there.

The system is lazy, the system is a failure to live up to its previous presentation, the system is not fun in the least sense of the word, and it is not engaging either. It is the most menial and mind numbingly boring content in the game, and it is the only content that was designed to drag on through the entire patch. It is not harder, it is not engaging, and in no way does it present a challenge to the player other than a realization that any self respecting individual should demand being paid for this kind of drivel.

Data entry would be a more entertaining way to spend the time the Atma portion takes, and you get paid for that. The fundamental flaw with this system is that it is part of a game and it is less entertaining than doing productive, boring work.

For all of you people complaining about ATMA drops, wait until you have to start standing around for 8 hours for a particular FATE to spawn to complete a book. At least with ATMA grinding, you are doing something.

Menial challenge for menial reward. Sometimes takes forever, sometimes can be done casually over a weekend. ATMA is fine, and the argument is tired.

At least with atma you have the freedom to get other stuff done simultaneously. Why not take advantage of all that fate farming by spiritbonding, chocobo xp, drops used in daily quests, etc etc. Plus since you can use zeniths for any class, might as well use the time to practice subclass rotations.

I have 14 alexandrite and for the first time since i started this game 3 years ago playing version 1.0 I am not really having much fun.. (meaning i enjoyed the game even in its 1.0 version state until now.)

on a side note i have 3 atma weapons, Animus PLD shield and Animus WAR weapon, and 3 books from animus pld sword. So yes Atma was really not so bad, novus is ridiculous, highly repetitive and not really fun at all, also highly unrewarding.

If the next step isnt super easy and highly rewarding i will have to post again about my distaste.

Congrats you're one of the lucky few who seem to have no trouble with Atma. People like me on the other hand have been trying to get just ONE Atma weapon since 2.2 dropped. 4 hours grinding today so far and still nothing to show for it.

I admire your optimism really I do but it doesn't work any more. There is no "other stuff" to do while farming Atma. Spirit bonding? Don't need to. I do use my Chocobo while doing it. Not because I want to level it but because it helps make it go a little faster. I don't need daily quest drops since I have max rep already. Rotations in this game are simple and it's like riding a bike after you have it down so that's out as well. It's boreing. Requires 0 skill. People preaching to the quire about how people should stop complaining, that it's not that bad. That it's about dedication and effort, just stop. Where was the dedication when a FC mate got his first Atma weapon within 12 hours of starting. Where's my Atma weapon after putting in countless hours of time and effort since 2.2 launched?

Some of you have been exceedingly lucky and I'm happy for you. But there is no reason why some of us should still not have a single atma weapon after so much time. It's a broken system no matter how you try to defend it.

One question:

Do you /cheer when an ATMA drops? Do you feel like you accomplished something, at least taking one step forward to a weapon others will notice and respect your hours of grinding for? Or is it just unfair how the next guy got it easy? This is just SE holding a carrot in front of the mule's nose to keep it going. Are you a mule? No. It's your choice, the drop rate is RNG but fair across the board. Good luck on showing off your epeen unless you grind.
