ATMA: the worst thing ever made on A Realm Reborn

Clearly the people OK with the system didn't have to sink a lot of time into Atma and can't understand the frustration. Some of us have been trying to get their first Atma weapon since 2.2 went live with very little to show for our "Determination and effort." I'm one of these people. Some one said something about being more worried about the myth costs for books? Bull shit. At least you can actually see your progress and get an idea of when you'll complete it. Atma farming you're either exceedingly lucky or you're not. The guy one the first page who said something akin to if you roll a 100 side dice enough you'll get it. Flawed logic. Is it possible? Yes. It's also possible that you can spend years rolling that 100 side dice without ever hitting the desired number. Give me a challenge of skill or grinding that you can actually measure over this garbage any day.

What ever I wont care any more in a week once my account goes out. I'll resub for Rogue/Ninja or if 2.3 turns out to be entertaining.

Three long weeks doing FATE for 3 hours at day. This past week-end I played for over 15 hours. Well, I got only 2 ATMAs after all this time...

IMO the system is fine as it is - the problem is in players like you who are trying forcibly grind / farm FATEs for Atmas instead of playing it as it was intended by simply joining FATEs at random when you happend to pass by active one. I've started the quest only 2 weeks ago, since then I've joined about 10 - 12 FATEs max just because they were in progress right in front of my nose and I've already got two atmas for total time spent less than half hour WHILE enjoying doing some other content in the meantime instead of mindlessly running from FATE to FATE for week or months like drone. There's your problem ...

Literally the most boring thing I have encountered in any mmo I have played, and I have been playing them since 1996.

Everything about this game screams fun, final fantasy, wonderment, amazement, except for Atma hunting. Instant boredom and tedium work in otherwise a master piece of a game.

I think Atma is properly balanced.
As a new father, i still have lots of time to play the game, but i dont have that time in big chunks. I'm having to get up and do stuff every 15 minutes for variable lengths of time. I dont have the time to put into running with my FC's static groups for Coil.
But i DO have time for several spaced out 5 min FATEs. I can sit and casually roll a 100 sided die until i hit 100 12 times no problem, it took me about 2 weeks of doing FATEs and crafting with the occasional Guildheist on other classes. If it wasn't for this method i certainly wouldn't have the weapon i do now because i havn't had the time to dedicate to the higher iLV dungeons. (and i'm not going to take a quick carry win to get them).

The Atma chain is the perfect alternative for me and i'm quite happy they had something like this in place. I feel rewarded for the work i was able to put into it.

ATMA is pure horse crap. It's an unchallengingly lazy content design with a sole purpose of "retaining" subscriptions. Sure, its a progression path for the non-raiders. But the time spent:reward ratio is extremely unbalanced and unpredictable. Even after you get it, the weapon upgrade itself is far from being BIS. Sure, you have the mirror path as well. The mirror is a unicorn, it doesn't exist. There you have it, end game in FF14.

I loved this game intensely for almost a year. How they've disappointed me so. It's been great, but I'm taking my money somewhere else. Maybe get an awesome $13 lobster roll instead of this. At least I know its a lobster roll that will taste damn delicious.

If you do it this way (only participate in random FATES here and there when you cross them) you will have your Upgrade by the Year 2020. This method won't bring you anywhere. Either grind or let it be. If you got 2 out of 12 FATES, you have been EXTREMELY lucky and this will most probably not stay this way.

Then don't do it and don't complain about it! SE isn't making you do any of it there is other options and don't go oh i paid for it well then do what they required then and stop crying over it jesus other mmo's have ruined the community everyone expects free handouts.

No one complaining about atma is asking for a free hand outs. Stop trying to strawman the argument. And yes, we will complain about content that is pure crap. That's how life works. If you don't like something, you complain about it. You don't stay quiet and hope people can read your mind.
