This casual vs hardcore thing is stupid i hate hearing this comparison, I walked into gamestop today and heard some people talking about this hardcore vs casuals has so many different meanings to people its retarded.

So one guy in game stop says he's hardcore gamer cause he plays CoD... Then the other guys says well i like CoD but i am an hardcore SSB player(Super smash bro's) so the other guy says that game cant be hardcore cause it has jigglypuff in it... So now depending on what and who's in your game make's it hardcore now?

Then on these forums people are saying being hardcore is how much time you spend in a game.....cause then some of these arguments don't make sense some of you in other thread's was stating doing time sinks doesn't make you hardcore but spending a lot of time in game does... seems like the same thing to me.

Now i don't think this is the correct way to differ hardcore and casual so here is a shot: My friend is a hardcore sonic player, while i am not, He learns the in's and out's of the level's and try to beat them in the fastest times possible like he beat the new sonic demo on XBL in 57's in 5 tries and says it can't be done faster. Me i just play the game to play the game... So that's how i figure out how the difference between hardcore and casuals are.

Hardcore: People who willing to learn in's and out's of a game and learn all of its mechanics.

Casual: People who just want to play the game for what it is on the outside and not get all technical with it.

Well in order to be hardcore the time investment would be higher and much higher than a casual gamer. Being a casual gamer is exactly how you describe but because they don't care about any specific game intimately they would not invest too much time on a game.

Now why people think that they are somehow better because they are "hardcore"? Simply because it makes them feel better about themselves that they are able to invest time in a game more than others and they are aware of the ins and out. Thus the reason hardcore games keep patting themselves on the back and keep looking for ways to be better than the casual gamer by the inclusion of as many timesinks as possible. After all, they have the time investment advantage over casual gamers not necessarily skill.
