Unlock it, people will be happy until they have everything they need, than they will cry for "why dont you give us more to do"

Personally I would love to have no lockouts. But yea that is exactly what I would do play hard core for like a month max out all my gear, not really play come back 5 months do it again. SE obviously doesn't want people to do this because then they only be paying for their game 2 months out of the year.

Yoshi said it himself, he's designing this game so you don't have to feel the need to constantly play, like you can take a month or two off while waiting for the next update as he knows lots of players do this with MMOs - So in reality, he'd be getting his wish as well.

This could be easily solved by having actual challenge in game and vertical progression (so all old gear doesn't become irrelevant)

Looks right to me. Horizontal progression is a myth. There will always be "that one item" that is optimal over everything else and getting it becomes "required" for that class.

Except FFXI had excellent horizontal progression that allowed old content to stay relevant for years, making so people are actually encouraged to do it.
