I like how some people really don't know what an MMO is. ie the few who posted multiple games that aren't MMOs at all.

Bear in mind, a lot of these dates overlap as I've played several at the same time. So in no particular order I've played...
Phantasy Star Online (2001-2004) -> Character: Wildfire
Final Fantasy XI (2004-2013) -> Pojojo / Seiowan
City of Heroes (2007-2012) -> Thunderspark / Mary Grace / Little Jenny
Perfect World International (2010-2012) -> Lemuria / Seiowan
Guild Wars (2006-2007) -> Mairie Blaize
Guild Wars 2 (2012-ongoing) -> Lemuria Blaize
DC Universe Online (2011-2013) -> Mystic Rose / Alacrity Burst
Dungeons and Dragons Online (2012)
Neverwinter (2013)
World of Warcraft (2007)
I think that about covers them... I may have missed a few minor ones that I only played for a couple of weeks, but no one cares about super-casuals. If I haven't included my character names, it's probably because I didn't play them long enough to be memorable (a couple of months at worst).

MUDs MOOs and MUXes oh my! Which did you frequent most? I play Lensmoor on and off.
As for modern MMOs:
FFXI was my first, loved the hell out of it. 2005-2010
FlyFF, I played it on and off 2007-2008
Aion, lol, that lasted like 6 months.
WoW, 2 weeks. Just felt too childish. Not the playerbase, but the pastel-colored environment.
TERA for about 6 months on and off, mostly played for friends.
Mabinogi, for like, 3 months. Weirdest 3 months of my life.
RO, had a lot of fun, kinda miss it.
RO2, for a few months after release. Was really disappointed with it honestly.
My god I am drawing a blank, I know there's so many more...
Ah, Maplestory- I played that my entire summer vacation back in 2005. Dropped it soon after.
Probably tons of other f2p's that were forgettable for whatever reason.
And of course, XIV since 1.0.

In 2000, I put in a couple of months into EverQuest. The Ruins of Kunark expansion was new and my dad's wife got it on sale at Best Buy. The fun to not-fun ratio for me was in favor of not-fun. After my subscription was cancelled, I vowed to never play an MMO. Despite not enjoying EQ all that much, I understood why people would invest so much time into the game.
2005 rolls around and I got Guild Wars. Yes, I had sworn off MMOs, but a patch to Diablo 2 rendered the game unenjoyable for me. The fact that the game didn't have a subscription fee was what caught my eye, and it was pretty cheap. I invested a lot of time into the game.
2007 I finally get World of Warcraft about a month after the launch of The Burning Crusade. I had been playing it steadily until recently. As of right now, I've been unsubscribed to WoW for about a couple of months.
2010 I got into the beta test for FFXIV 1.0. The only good thing that I could say about it was that it looked and sounded pretty. Recalling my experience during the beta is still traumatizing.
2013 I nearly declined the invitation to the 2.0 beta for FFXIV, but I'm glad that I accepted it. I had been in the beta test since Phase 2. I've been subscribed to FFXIV since launch.
2007 to Current, I've tried out a number of other MMOs. EverQuest II, I subscribed for a bit but canceled as soon as I was able to after Sony got their entire online network (not just PSN) back up. Warhammer: Age of Reckoning was another MMO that I subscribed to for about a year before cancelling. To date, it remains as the only MMO to get such an endorsement from me of "At least try the free trial." Other MMOs (in no particular order): Tera, Aion, Rift, Secret of the Solstice, Fly For Fun, Maple Story, Secret of the Solstice, Perfect World International, Star Wars: the Old Republic, FFXI, Myth War 1, Myth War 2, LotRO, DDO, Age of Conan, Dark Age of Camelot and I'm sure that there are others that I'm not remembering.

I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.

I think my first MMO was ToonTown then FusionFall (That Cartoon Network MMO.) I played during the open beta period but not after it ended.
Then I played free realms for while.
Then much later I played DC Universe Online (on a different steam account) but I quit for some reason.
Finally the MMO I played before FFXIV was Star Wars: The Old Republic.
I never played World of Warcraft and I don't intend to.

WoW - since launch - February 2014
Vindictus - June 2013 - December 2013
Conquer 2.0 - 2004 - 2006
FFXIV - February 2014 - Present
I played Neverwinter for a few months from their beta until FFXIV let me into beta. Now I play FFXIV. That's all the MMO experience I have.
EQ1 Launch through Planes of Power endgame
FFXI Launch didn't get into the expansions
EQ2 Launch until they went F2P
FFXIV Launch through present
I am seeing a pattern... that will probably continue with EQ:Next
