I do the same as above I try and play the market each time I am in one of the cities.

This is kind of a moot issue to be honest.
Just look through random odds and ends being sold on the market board below vendor cost. I just buy them up to vendor and move on. People selling on the market boards don't have crazy "deep" schemes.
People do massive undercuts often to discourage people from selling their hot items though. It's not a huge secret. If someone is doing that to you, they are probably counting on they could sell at cost or at a loss and eventually make a profit. They think they probably have more money than you and they are probably right. When you give up the price goes back to normal. This is because, it's worth doing that to them more than doing five hundred undercuts a hour game with you for pennies at a time. That is no fun for most people (either party).
But yea, it's because of stuff like that, I don't really feel like playing market board so much. Some people like undercutting for pennies five hundred times a hour or doing massive undercuts to discourage people. I don't enjoy it but different strokes you know? I don't blame people do doing stuff like that. It's just good business? Sometimes it's fun to play with them to see who will win in the end.
Saying like "it was cheaper to obtain the mats for me, so I can sell it cheaper" or "you were selling it too high to begin with!", I mean, sure that happens too but, who is going to say they are trying to discourage you by undercutting you by 50%? It's pretty obvious if something has been selling at full price for seven days straight that undercutting by 50% to "make it sell quick" isn't really a good idea for anyone unless you are doing it to put other sellers off.
But yea, all kinds of things happen, but I would suggest, if your items are getting undercut massively by a single notorious person, more than half the time it's probably to discourage the other sellers like you. Odds are they aren't getting upset about it either, it's just another way people play this game. While some people might cite other reasons for massive undercuts and actually be serious, I really doubt the people doing it to discourage you will tell you right out. Who likes confrontation?

Hehe, if anyone tried to grief me about that, I'd go out of my way to crash whatever market they were in.
A disservice for angry crafters, a service for adventurers!
While I agree that harassment is uncalled for, it drives me fraking crazy when people mindlessly undercut prices on the market board.
False. How often do you see retailers undercutting prices of Apple products? Ever see a big box retailer sell a new Macbook Pro for 50% off? No, because they have an agreement with the vendor to sell their products within a certain price range. That applies to plenty of products and scenarios.
That's funny I always see stores like wal-mart go on and on about it, "We will match any local competitor's advertised price.". Seeing as how "word of mouth" is a very big issue when it comes to people that just wont take it. Here.False. How often do you see retailers undercutting prices of Apple products? Funny thing about people complaining about under cutters is that there's some people that buy them out and then proceed to put them back up for more. No need to harass players that simply want to make a quick profit but don't want to play the Market Board game.
Domino started with a false premise.
Apple of course, is the sole source of specialty products. Its agreements with retailers to sell only for the contracted MSRP, is nothing like an intentional collusion between sellers of commodity items and commodity services.
yeah, undercutters, u did a bad thing for the economy u know, but anyway, its a game
Glad to know that DEV are not going to hide or remove crafters' signature.
