There is no "doesn't work." Time card is a time card. Grow a pair and use paypal or use a CC for FFXI. The only real "issue" was the one guy trying to use a CC outside of his region, which at that point should be 100% flagged as that can be considered a fraudulent purchase.

Using a time card for many equates to overpaying and doesn't cover additional fees (such as retainers), and people have already told you this. SE's credit card payment methods are shoddy at best and there's always a good chance of issues arising; this has been happening since FFXI. It's not just trying to pay using a card from outside of your region that creates issues for a lot of people either, trying to change your credit card information has been a large headache for many and a good number cards just don't seem to work without jumping through loops or even at all. There have been more than a few instance where SE system has double charged and/or added additional fees for services that were never purchased, this wouldn't be an issue if their customer service didn't require you do backflips uphill to prove to them that these fees should not have been charged in the first place.

So my response to your "Grow a pair" is do your research before making yourself look like a fool; I'm sure you can bring up more than a handful of complaints about SE's payment services and the outstanding customer service that followed with a quick Google search.

Went around to a few stores looking for Ultimate Game Cards, they've pretty much been phased out where I am. I managed to find a Best Buy that has the XIV 60 day time cards, but I'm also planning to resub to XI, which the time cards won't work for.

Anyone know if the charge for pre-paid credit/debit cards (hell, Visa gift cards even) get charged outside of the U.S. when purchasing Crysta? I'd rather not buy one and waste my time, did that once trying to get a game on GOG lol.

Actually, no it is not. My subs run $12.99 for 30 days because I am an Entry level subscriber. That card is $29.95 for 60 Days (do the math.. throwing away almost $2/month), and cannot be applied to my account even if I bought them:

If I remember right, qualifying Legacy players pay less than Entry level rates. So for them, Time Cards would also be an overpayment.

The only way to pay such discounted rates is to basically use Crysta or CC billing, and if they couldn't use a CC within the system they have been able to use UGC's to buy the Crysta. If their access to Crysta goes away, so may their subscriptions if SE does not provide a comparable alternative.

for those of us with Legacy status the billing is
$9.99 USD for 1 month.
$8.99 USD per month for 3 months.
$7.99 USD per month for 6 months.


so lets do the math on that one shall we
those 60 day time cards would equate to $15.00 per month which is on par with a regular sub with no extra retainers. which is fine for regular subscribers who can find those cards. but not for those of us who are not
already a $5.01 USD loss on the regular legacy pricing.
If I opt for 6 months I'm getting a heavy loss right there and so are the regular subscribers with that time card.

Stores already starting to pull the cards from their shelves here. Some of the guys at one of our local Hellmarts use them also, and have hidden a handful behind some of the other cards instead of pulling them all so people can still buy them in the coming weeks/months (stupid limit on how much Crysta you can load at once).

Clock is ticking SE... I know we still have a few months, but we both know how much trouble you guys have with setting up new payment systems.

Well this is not good. After my first subscription ran out I didn't auto renew it for a week and when I tried to using both of my credit cards Mogstation gives me errors (no the cards are not full or anything like that) I've called my bank and contacted SE but it just doesn't work. They suggested Crysta as did many other people that have this problem unfortunately this is the only way to get it for me so this isn't good.

PCgamesupply(.com) still has a bunch of UGC cards for sale, for whoever's still looking. I managed to snag enough for another 8mo. Hopefully there'll be a replacement by then.
