I think the problem is that those who treat newcomers like dirt rarely gets reported since new players might not know how to or think they shouldnt which gives them cause to just keep doing it without getting punished for it by SE

We already know SE takes votekick abuse VERY seriously by checking chatlogs and such so why shouldnt they react the same when players insult others, force them to skip cinematics or even try forcing speedruns on a group.

Good thread! I agree the toxic is bad. It's so bad my wife doesn't even wanna do dungeons anymore because she isn't as good as other players so they criticize her every move. It is quite sad really. I either have to play for her or try to build a friendly pt. Either way it's not cool in the long run.

My biggest pet peeve is "exp only" even in PF. I think that is toxic. When people want to build a relationship or party with people on their own server they at meet with even more toxic comments then if they just did Duty Finder. Even though I know most of the dungeons, and even know the fight I refuse to join anyone with "exp only!" that only is ruining a lot of peoples opinion of the community of this game.

Today I left my FC to make my own, I was 1 mil off from being able to get a house for my new FC and one of the members from the FC i just left gave me 1mil. Even though I left theirs. I felt bad but he insisted.

The players will start to care when the developers do.

I said my peice in 1.0 when the game actually supported communities and didn't have cross server grouping (A utterly massive blow to having a good comunity in my opinion) The games downfall of community interaction died when they made the game not require interaction.
I think this holds an element of truth. Duty Finder matching has it's costs to faster queue times, especially in CT.

People throw around the toxic word way too much.

It's not so much "plus anonymity" so much as "minus consequences". People act like dicks when they think they will get away with it. Thus, I ask you all to take the time to file harassment reports any time you see toxic behaviour taking place, even if it's not happening to you personally. We need to ensure that there are consequences to poisoning the community before anyone will stop doing it.

Y'know, in addition to giving out free /hugs when that becomes a thing.

I often see new folks with low quality gear and have randomly crafted them HQ items to help them progress. I crafted a guy a full set of HQ myth heavy armour the other day at a major gil/mat loss but he really appreciated it and hopefully it will have a positive impact as he may go on to help someone else gradually improving the community one player at a time.

The problem is: The ToS have, if you read them carefully, nothing in them that forbids treating newbies like dirt as long as no expletives are used.

Calling someone a n00b? No offense, since not a curse word.

Telling s.o. he/she should better quit/is the worst player ever (not in general, I am talking about the very special context of a new player)? Cannot see anything in the ToS forbidding it.

Starting a dungeon with "oh, <player's name> again! The tank that cannot hold aggro!" (assuming the tank is new and does indeed have some issues) causing other players to consider quitting? No ToS clause about that, as far as I have been able to understand.

Bottom line: You can be as mean and toxic as you like, as long as you do not use any curse words. Nothing SE wants to fix, as it seems.

    Requesting this thread be stickied.

Improving the community is on all of us, not just the devs or GMs.
