i understand the OP's concerns. but, personally i play by the who gives a damn ethos. I'll go play the new dungeon without reading up on it, without looking at videos. Why? Because i want that initial OMG experience. Nothing gives back for playing the game than hitting something and thinking "holy crap, this looks awesome" or "oh wow, this is a serious step up from what i was doing before". Sure, haters gonna hate, but they have the option to kick me if they don't like my playstyle (although i don't see any "can't do his job" or "doesn't know the fight" in the kick options.. harassment?). I'll enjoy the game in my own damn time and my own damn style.

You've all done it a million times before? Sure thing, kick me, i'm replaceable, but i'll always remember who treated me like a twat for trying to enjoy the initial unveiling of something new to me.

Addition to above. Ran CT for first time yesterday, i'm a healer. No "study" of videos needed, just a couple lines now and then from my friend who ran with me explaining the simple mechanic of what was going on. "don't stand here" or "move here when this happens".

As a new player to this game and playing as a tank, I get it. But where would we be as people if we just quit every time someone had negative feed back?
Granted I haven't done many dungeons other than the ones that are in the main story line, but have repeated them to try and get this role down. My main character is ahead level wise than what main quest level I'm on. Just got to the Haukke Manor, and I did read about what to expect in there before going in.
Being paired up with randoms that most likely are higher level than me and want to just run through it or yell at me. I figured it was best to know what to expect. If I was with a bunch of friends that have never done it before, then I wouldn't bother reading up about it and we would just go have fun trying to figure it out for ourselves.

You can call me what you want, be mad because I don't play the game like you do, but I will never hang up my shield because of what some online chump said.

If they wanna "just run through it" let THEM tank speed run. I personally find it easier to learn by doing it, many people do. If someone doesn't have the patience for a new player to learn mechanics then that's what party finder is for or they can que up as a tank and pull the whole group through it as fast as they please.

I jumped into the Levi fight without knowing what to do, picked up on everything right away and we cleared it. Was pretty happy, it was a fun fight and currently getting ready for some Levi EX.

And this is why we have so few tanks around :P it's a game ppl need to relax if you die in game your real life will still go on. And if your running with random players never expect a perfect run {maybe in a perfect world things work this way} but in any game you will run into bad or ok players. If your looking for a perfect run well that's what party finder is for.

Considering that a "slow" run of any of the instanced content really isn't that slow, provided people are even remotely competent, I've never understood why people get as upset as they do over new players. That being said, I totally agree that it's quite rude to go into the mechanics heavy endgame content without doing a bit of homework as a tank. I'm a tank myself and it is extremely frustrating if, say, the OT has literally no idea whatsoever what to do in a fight like Garuda EX.... the success of which is almost completely on the tanks' shoulders. Expert/High Level stuff? Sure, you're probably fine going in unprepared. Might cause a wipe at some point but you're not going to torpedo the run and no one should be pissed off about it. Extreme Trials/Raids? Don't be a dick... take the few minutes it takes to read what you need to do, especially if you're a tank. DPS can often get away with not doing homework but seeing as how a tank sets the positioning for the entire run it's kinda a big deal if you have zero clue what's going on. All it takes is a quick glance and you can say "ok.. grab Chirada -> grab Suparna off MT -> swap spiny at 2 -> etc" for example. Everyone has a right to hate on a tank if they're like "ooo what's this brand new mechanic I couldn't have possibly done anything to prepare for" as you wipe at every stage of a fight. I keep using Garuda EX as an example because it's one of the more involved fights for a tank. If one tank has no clue what's going on you have very little chance of winning unless they're extremely fast learners. If neither tank has a clue you can guarantee you'll be wiping for the duration of the timer without much progression to show for it.

I think a major factor causing these negative social interactions is the number of extreme ilvl players doing lower level content for both Myth and Animus/Novus progression. That being said, all it takes is for an experienced player to take a cursory glance at the party members' HP to get an idea of what to expect. No one should be surprised when the tank with 5k hp doesn't pull the whole zone for you. Also, a lot of the finesse points in running instances come from a combination of experience, having veteran players pass on tidbits of knowledge, and seeing other people in action while we're on different jobs. Most guides don't cover a lot of the things that make for super-smooth runs like key LoS pulls and whatnot. Everyone would have a better time if more experienced players just recognized that most people want to improve and are pretty receptive to pro tips.
