I hope this never happens; it is an easy out for people who've ruined their name in addition to people who buy/sell accounts.

Actually an easy way to avoid this is to use the Lodestone Feature and just link all your names together via your ID. I understand/respect your opinion and in a way share it.
But I'm a roleplayer at heart since the age of 9. I want to change my entire character head to toe name included from time to time and I feel I should be allowed to do that.
As a role player then, wouldn't the best solution be to simply roll a new character? Name changes in conjunction with using fantasia to change everything to do with your character doesn't particularly sit well with role playing. Surely it would kill any immersion you might get from role playing in the first place? I mean most people who role play will have entire back stories and lore worked out for their character...Actually an easy way to avoid this is to use the Lodestone Feature and just link all your names together via your ID. I have every class at 50 north of ilvl 75 (with exception to PGL which is level 40). I don't really want to level a new character up.
Also, I do too.
Short descriptions below without history.
Sion Durant is an Elezen Paladin from a destroyed House in Ishgard, who set out to strike his own.
Name Etymology: Holy Fortress
Rath'a Saran is a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon whom was cast out from his tribe after having accidentally killed his mother with undisciplined thaumaturgy.

People who did the following can already rename through other means.
Its about spending a reasonable amount to rename i.e. not $36 for a trivial feature.
The reasonable amount should be like $1000 to discourage the behavior. The $36 is an exploit. You really should NOT be allowed go back to your previous server ever, or at least 6-months.
XD there's seriously no way you've ever been trolled that hard, and if you have, there's something you did to bring it on.
I am sure of it now, this has to be about some sort of strange elitism or paranoia more than anything it can't be legitimately you're so horrified of the potential epic trolls out there.
Wow, this community. Nevermind lol. Forget the thread. I really don't get where all this massive anger comes from it's crazy, something is seriously, seriously wrong.

You didn't have a cute emoticon to go along with your riot, therefore it failed miserably.
i.e. つ ◕_◕ ༽つNAME CHANGE OR RIOT ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
Joking aside, the main difference between this effort and the fantasia effort is that a method to change your name exists if you want it badly enough.
I guess so. It's like I just started a debate about Politics and Religion. Sorry, didn't know that there were so many epic trolls out there.
In my MMO gaming day you just ignore them, they can't control you, so why let them so deeply impact you that you're here to this day on this forum at this time fighting with a guy who wants to nerd out and change his char up every now and then.
Seems to me people let themselves be terrorized. Key word, let.
