When doing FATE this becomes even more annoying, specially when you have 30+ players around the FATE's target.
Instead of a single ON/OFF setting, this should be:

    - Off
    Turn off that option entirely

    - Self
We check our character's surroundings all the time to avoid attacks, so it's useful to see that information "flying" on your character.

    - Party (this should be the default option)
Usually not so useful for me, but I often check my Chocobo's "Choco Surge" using the flying text, and it's also good to see how much EXP he earned. It's also useful to check if someone is on Regen and stuff.

    - All
    Flying text on every character

This pretty much hits the nail on the head.

That's a great idea. As long as I can see buffs/debuffs on anyone I don't care about flying text, it just clutters the screen. Especially with jobs like monk who seems to have plenty of it...

Brilliant! Heck, playing as a monk, even my own stances get irritating, but factor in every Tom, Dick, and Harry's flying text, and I have no idea what is happening to whom anymore. It's fine when I'm just running around with my chocobo, but the instant I step into a FATE, or wander into a crafting section of town (do I REALLY need to see every person's use of Inner Quiet?), or do anything involving other people... It's madness.
