I quit FFXI at around level 10~ish for this reason. I don't think people REALLY feel the learning curve in ARR until after they've already hit level 50. At that point you've got to give them a couple months to....do stuff.

I knew FFXI was going to be bad for me when I left Windhurst for the very first time, and got served by a level 1 mandragora

You see, that was the glory of it all as odd as it sounds...some people get it, some don't. No matter what level you were, there was always a rabbit that could stomp you into the ground if you weren't careful. I don't remember but I'm sure there was a mandragora to match the rabbit example. There was a sense of danger, and a good bit of challenge to do, well, anything. The community was better for it, too because you HAD to work together with other people and make friends. Most times the friendships came from having to work together.

Instead I'll talk about 2.0. I remember when people would form parties and just group up and do content for the sake of getting in there and getting the experience.

Not even 3 major patches in and we already got.

So you know how that could be exploited: bring one new player so the seven 'pros' can get fast myth.



That defeats the purpose of an MMO. You are not (well should not be) expected to be perfect at it first go. The problem lies with the people who expect a one shot not the new people.

Invite every newbie to my FC, cater them, pamper them and get them to Coil T5 so I can farm it up all day off of them lolol.

It's cause the game was modeled after WoW, what do people expect? All of that stuff came out of WoW's endgame. Except for the 3rd thing. The community wasn't as bad as this one at catching on to mechanics. They were bad, but not FF14 bad. Generally, people ran with their guild or barely at all. Until LFR and Flex was introduced.

No, it wasn't cause you needed other players to do things and there was no duty finder. If you were a dick, you got blacklisted and if you continued to be a dick everyone knew and you weren't going to do content. With duty finder, if I'm dick, oh well. That party isn't ever gonna see me again and they'll probably won't remember me if we do meet again.

If you were a dick, you got blacklisted and if you continued to be a dick everyone knew and you weren't going to do content. With duty finder, if I'm dick, oh well. That party isn't ever gonna see me again and they'll probably won't remember me if we do meet again.

Things are gonna change soon due to this:

Players can no longer join a party finder group if they have been blacklisted by the recruiter.

In the event the recruiter has been blacklisted, the party finder entry will be grayed out, and the Join Party button cannot be selected.

Doesn't DF pull from other servers? If so...it's gonna take awhile before there's a notable difference.

Dunno about others but my blacklist is filled with RMT spammers. So totally agree on your comment.

Also, that's party finder...and that's already in place.

The devs are pretty much killing the use of DF with every patch.

At least before 2.28, there was a reason to use the DF, which was for roulettes being restricted to solo only.

After 2.28, queue times for solo roulette have become considerably longer with a portion of the playerbase who would rather just either grab a group of friends to do it with or start a PF then queue the roulette.
