How can you even sight see in a cramped cubicle world anyway. Let me go sight see the invisible walls..... This must be their stride to open content lmao.

What I find funny is everyone in the this thread thinking the weather and time of day is the problem. For me that is not the problem. For me the problem is the emotes. I read the hints and try every emote associated with the emotion/action in the description. I've been to numerous locations during the right weather, and yes it said I arrived at a vista, but no matter which emote I use nothing ever unlocks.
At least Maplestory, a free to play game, does this stuff the right way. It's actually fun in that game, but a ridiculously obscure chore in FFXIV.
Its pretty much EXACTLY what I expected to be, but I didn't expect much from it at all. Like almost no expectations. If this was a like FFXI, where exploring places was hard and dangerous, then it would had at least gave me a sense of satisfaction. However, this game is easier to explore than WoW and the outside world in worth practically nothing. Sometimes I ask myself, why does this game even have an outside world? There's freaking nothing there except FATES. Freaking casuals, I blame the casuals. Half-seriously though, it is due to the "casuals". Oh and, despite all its pros, cheap and universally available teleportation makes the outside world even more worthless.

Its like sightseeing in purgatory :O (stand here until the almighty one says u can stop)...
*sits and waits hours in the right weather only to have it change when the correct time finally arrives*
Photographers aside, who in real life sits and waits at a sightseeing location for hours, in wind, rain, etc... Most tourists go to see it, take some photos and leave, not stare at it til your eyes bleed...
this is how i spent about 9 hours of my day today
seriously, this is stupid. that spot isn't a "view"

So if I just haul my ass to a location and just leave my character there and play Mario Kart 8 for 10 hours will the log be complete?
Or do I need to do something like emote at a certain time to make it happen?
Sigh...SE...why?
I guess they didn't want us to "just" sightsee. They wanted us to sightsee the holy living crap out of these locations to the point where we never want to visit them again. Ever.
What a great attitude to take for one working in game design...

My RP LS was loosely talking about doing the sightseeing log together and in character, like a large ongoing event. After reading this thread I am now 100% sure that is not going to work (I really do not think we would be able to sustain 6 hours of just talking RP while sitting at a location x 80 or so.)
Meh, oh well, I will most likely not be doing this now, or only try when I can be largely afk
This is bad from a logistics standpoint as you DO NOT want idle players just afking and taking up server space and resources. Ideally you want to get people OFF the servers when they are not actively playing, not try to keep them on. That just cost needless money on se's part and no money going to se on the players part, so neither party is feeling particularly satisfied.

It will first tell you "You have arrived at a vista" if you find the exact tiny little spot you need to be in, then you have to use a specific emote at a specific time/weather to get the completion. So if I just haul my ass to a location and just leave my character there and play Mario Kart 8 for 10 hours will the log be complete?

Not really, it could just be the camera panning over the view with some filters over it. Wouldn't have to be longer than 3 to 5 seconds (or it might get annoying after x times).
But so far I am enjoying it either way.
