And yet, there are many faces whose default /straightface expression is a smiling one (Miqo'te female comes to mind, only Face 4 is neutral).

Well ok, maybe stroke was a strong word. A cramp perhaps. As I type this, I'm sitting with the facial expression displayed on the first Miqo'te and my muscles are hurting already >.>;
There's a difference in having your lip corners curl a slight bit into a smile and having almond/smiley/happy eye shape naturally VS pulling muscles into a smile (or in other words - making the current facial expressions permanent).
Just like IRL some people have, for example more closed eyelids/sleepy eyes than others (naturally) VS slightly squinting (making an expression). That's the difference I'm talking about but, that's the subtle things which should have been implemented in the severely lacking char creator. I know I get hung up on such things more than an average person.... Just can't help but notice :|
