Novus weapon upgrade system findings

Anybody knows yet whether you can RAISE secondary stats or can they only be replaced? I would like to keep the Spell speed on my Animus staff and only increase it. DET will go away, not sure if I replace it with ACC or Crit chance yet.

A Novus just comes with two primary stats. Then no secondary. Scroll is used to apply the two secondaries.
