speaking of hilarious, here's what happened today:

DF roulette both expert & high level dungeon today, and I purposely SBing my craft gears here as BRD. But I do change to my optimal ones on bosses. After both duties done, I got commendation from both roulette.

Oh... and this is not 1st time I got commendation while SBing.

So in the end, this whole discussion are kinda moot since: a. As long as you perform well, it shouldn't be a problem after all, and b. apparently this drama only happens alot at NA/EU server, one of the perks playing in JP server I guess. But I have to admit, the drama's great! lol

That's not entirely accurate of a thing to say. It's more along the lines of underhandedly using your fellow pt members. I say that because I highly doubt you'd be all right about it if everyone in the group had done the SB crafting gear route? In particular, I doubt you'd be pleased if the tank had done the same thing lol. Basically, it's not exactly a fair deal for the people that it seems like you're simply taking advantage of. Call it hilarious all you want, but it's only funny until others take advantage of you lol. Or I guess until the group starts wiping constantly.

I SB regularly (DPS) using crafting gear for all the accessory slots. Sometimes I'll switch to full gear for the bosses. Even if I'm naked on the right hand side gear, my iLvl is 61, which is 6 levels higher than needed for Expert dungeons (and 11 higher than needed for hard, CT, etc). Accessories contribute much less to stats than the primary gear - we all know that the iLvl calculation weighs every piece the same, which is just not true of the effect of each piece. On my iLvl 97 brd, Dex added from the left is +175 (including weapon), from the right, 71.


My iLvl 100 weapon is responsible for most of the damage output and I still find that I draw hate from many tanks and outperform other DPS. Quite honestly, I see very little difference in speed between when I'm SB'ing versus fully geared and still regularly get player commendations.

So, yes, DF is there for me to Spirit Bond.

If you're talking about crafting gear SB, I throw the same comments I said above to you.

*edit* I neglected to mention on both accounts, this is only assuming if you're going full/near full crafting gear SB. If it's something like half (such as only accessories), then no biggy.

Recently I also had a party where rest of them are still even wear their original afs and the dungeon is AK. They do manage quite well up till Anantaboga when they wiped. Teached them how to properly do the fight and won on 2nd attempt. Nailed 3 commendations and got my gears SBed too. So it's a win-win to me. XD

So I ask you this: If you claim I'm taking advantage, then why I still got commendation? I'm not even asking them to give/trade them. lol

Like I said, things happened in US/EU server are pretty much different than JP. More drama >< Less drama. lol

For the commendations thing, they're somewhat meaningless. I, and a number of people, tend to just hand them out for the hell of it. There's also a challenge bonus for doing it. Commendations don't mean all that much to most people, unless you're trying for the mount. Plus you helped your group apparently with informing them of what to do, so that's always a plus. Again though, being in low end lv50 gear and being in crafting gear is a totally different matter. You're 100% wrong if you think that a tank in crafting gear for SB purposes (and ignoring any ridiculous attempts at materia melded to tank with) is going to perform anywhere near as well as a tank in entry AF. Dat 2-2.5k HP and minimal defense lol.

I don't think you're understanding what I mean by the "using" bit though. You're relying on the fact that only you will take advantage of crafting gear equipped to SB with. If everyone was to do it, you probably wouldn't make it far... at all. I'm pretty sure drama would ensue if that were to happen, regardless of what region you're playing on. Again, you're only looking at it from a "my own benefit" perspective, rather than what's actually going on and what would happen if others were to do what you do. Basically, if roles (such as tank), don't have the liberty of SB'ing crafting gear despite actually having the ability to do so, it's basically you taking advantage of them. More power to you if you see nothing wrong with that, but just know that you're still taking advantage of others.

*edit: I take some of this back. You seem sensible enough about the matter with your previous boss gear switch comment, but I still don't think you'd really care much for dungeons to SB with if it became a norm that every role switch to SB craft gear and having to pull trash one (group) at a time... and possibly wiping each time LOL.
