Cash shops: Whats wrong with you?

So long as you all don't bash me, and keep calling me a troll I won't bother. None of you seem to get why I am so angry on the subject. I don't like the idea of P2W with sub no one does, and that is what we got. I have a zero tolerance on the subject as to most people protesting in the 3rd thread, a re-has of what I was trying to do in the 1st before it got hi-jacked by the subject of if it is P2W or not. I am pissed about how many people are so blind and fan crazed for this game they can see that it is passing off this "service" a P2W service as if it wasn't. If people can't see that the P2W cash shop item is already here, accepted as alright, and NOT EVEN SEEN as P2W then more will happen because so long as they are crafty enough to fool its customers into thinking it is not P2W subscription purchase then they can come out with more services like it.

In one way this is WORSE than P2W in F2P, at l least in those games you pay only once for things like this and you have it with no need for subscription to it. I would be even more pissed if it wasn't for the fact that the effect gain was so minimal, but it is P2W.

This game could very passively go the way of ESO with a big cash shop with p2W, and a sub. At that point I hope it dies for the market's sake.

The moral of the story? Don't take it personally when someone suggests an idea that you don't agree with. It makes you look like a dick, and when you look like a dick, it makes certain individuals take advantage of that by trolling the crap out of you.

Oh no doubt, I agree, I don't like it when anything that is that level of useful is offered for cash money either. When the game Rift went F2P there were big discussions over that kind of stuff at the release of their cash shop.
They allowed purchase of all kinds of actual armor and weapons and their argument was that since they weren't offering the high end versions (yet) that it wasn't pay to win. Granted, it's not like they were offering a big advantage to people willing to pay, as the gear offered wasn't even "raid ready" and it was expensive (around 30$ US if I remember right). Even so, just mentioning P2W was rather incendiary as everyone seemed to want to defend their beloved game.

I can see why you'd approach it the way you did, but still your obvious message is obvious. People tend to look the other way on stuff like this and it's kind of silly. Anyone trying to call it for what anyone not playing this game would call it is bound to be met with hostility. It *is* a slippery slope and I can see why it's a important issue. What's to stop SE from releasing something new that pushes the envelope a bit more? I do find the retainer thing a bit benign as it is such a tiny advantage if that, but I believe that it's just a doorway to something bigger and more ominous.

I agree with the OP. This is dangerous ground. You get enough people to demand a Cash Shop there will be a Cash Shop. It is cause for concern.

One could argue that Vet rewards are exactly the same problem, because the more money you spend for your sub in advance, the more items you get than someone else who can't. Same with promotional items like the Wind-Up Dalamud/Wind-Up Bahamut/CE Items. You have to buy the OSTs and/or the CE in order to get those items, otherwise you can't ever get them.

Unless the cash shop sells items that grant stat boosts or items that unlock certain Cash Shop-exclusive dungeons, quests, and similar content to that, I honestly lack the ability to care about a cash shop in the game.

I mean, I'm seeing the game as having terrible servers with SE not really doing much to help the FFXIV team to improve said servers so I feel like they need more money due to the lack of bones they're being thrown, but what do I know? I'm just one of those players who wants to help FFXIV get rid of the 90k errors and the inability to have private housing. And if I get virtual items that feed my Completionist OCD? Then I see it as a win-win situation. Hell, on a personal level, I don't even care if there are P2W items on said cash shop. But I do know that, if there are, then a lot of players will unsub and the game will die a slow, agonizing death, and I don't want that.

Why is there such a large vocal group here preaching that a cash shop is the downfall of FFXIV as we know it?

Why is there members in that group saying that games that have a CS have all failed?

Why is it these same people compare the success/failure of a game to WoW?



I believe many people are seeing only what they want to see and not a suitable profitable big picture.
