I would really prefer a simple method to state my priorities for such sorting, let the game do your sorting, just tell him how. That way, the autosort willbe your friend instead of your worst nightmare-accident.

Some of that is available with the /itemsort command. It has options for several ways to sort gear, though not the options I'd like for other items (such as which order to place different item categories). Check out the Patch 2.1 Notes and look for "/itemsort" to see how it works. I would like seeing some more useful functionality added to it, though.

I mean like have an action to equip the best gear possible for that class.

I'd be satisfied with a more useful gear comparison, so we can see what stats are different between a selected item and the one we're wearing (all the stats, not just the top line attack/defense values that it compares now). Getting a quick "optimize" button as well wouldn't be bad, but if we had better gear comparisons, that would make it less necessary.

I think they're working on expanding the gear comparisons or looking into it or something (though I've forgotten where I saw that and whether it included an expected timeframe).

For the retainers, how auto to auto-sort them like the market board? Place new item on retainer #2, goes into retainer #1 automatically (if there is some space of course)

Want to look for ash lumber? no need to check all your retainers. It will be pretty much at the same one.
