I agree. I would rather a patch be implemented when it's ready to be implemented, rather than on schedule with a billion and one bugs. I usually take vague things like "We expect to release this patch sometime in may" as "Right now we don't foresee any problems with getting the patch out sometime in may, but problems may arise that take more time to work through so that's why we're not giving you an exact date until we get closer and see what work still needs to be done." Not hyping up my expectations and pulling random days out of the aether just because they're likely days of an update usually means I'm not disappointed when a patch is pushed back because it's not ready yet. The patch is still coming, be patient while they work out the bugs and get everything ready. Rushing people at delicate work usually ends in disaster.

Down to 2 days left, still no official word on "the end of May" turning into a week out of June...and possibly turn into "Well... we will be at E3 and don't want to release when we aren't there to support any major issues" To be fair, I guess they could wait until late night on the 31st to post that it's delayed a week and it would still count for something.

Seems like any time a date/release window is mentioned you should go ahead and add 2+ weeks.

I think this is why so many devs just don't give a date at all. I think I like that better than being repeatedly disappointed when deadlines are missed, or changed with no explanation for weeks (20% echo in coil)

Apologies that this information wasn't properly communicated during the Letter from the Producer LIVE Part XIV. Even though the finalized Q&A is not yet complete, I wanted to share the relevant portion of it with you in which Yoshida explains the reasoning for pushing the release of Patch 2.28 by a few days.

Q: When will patch 2.28 be implemented?
A: We had been developing the content planning for a May 28 release, but as there was a period of network issues that disturbed GM support and caused inconveniences for everyone, the final debug work was three days late. In addition to this, the building where Square Enix is located will have a yearly power outage from Saturday, May 31 to Sunday, June 1. While it may have been possible to release the patch on Friday, May 30, we wouldn't be able to address anything in the event something happened to the servers. I apologize, but we putting all our effort into a June 4 or 5 release. We'll be delivering the content and features shown in the slides as best as we can.

    Yearly power outage?

Not criticizing or anything. You do what you gotta do. It just sounds... odd.

Only thing I can think of is hardcore generator testing. But where I work they just start the generator once a week to make sure it turns over in the timeframe it should. We don't take all the power down in the building for it.

It's a Japan thing, varying from company to company, but it's just something they have to do.

For those who understand JP, here's some supplementary info/examples:

Okay then. that's what I'll do. I'll tell you a story. Can you hear them? All these people who lived in terror of you and your judgement. All these people who's ancestors devoted themselves to you, sacrificed themselves to you. Can you hear them singing?

Nope. My building does a yearly power shutdown. It's for general maintenance of base building electrical systems. It's different from generator testing (done weekly), as these are systems that are meant to run 24/7. They wouldn't be able to safely do maintenance without completely shutting off the power, which also involves cutting off from the local city supply.
