At first I was very scared, but since with Arcanist levelling two jobs was quite tempting I decided to give SCH and HLR in general a try. It's was scary, but getting to help the party and really see the difference and the progress you can make is quite rewarding. Now I just switch between Healer and DPS whenever it pleases me and I just love both roles. I don't consider myself as a main healer because I wouldn't venture furthest than T2 / Titan HM, but I heal whenever my FC / friends need it.

Plus, you get low waiting times in DF and Duty Roulette! :P

This thread is interesting... I can help my friends tanking or doing DPS, but somehow I just can't heal... Sometimes I wonder "How are there too many healers?" , "Don't they get bored?" (low level dungeons) "Don't they get stressed?" (Titan EX, coils...)

I wonder where's the fun in healing...What's what makes them take the staff-book!... In my case I even have some healer gear reserved for when if I'm bored enough, level up some healer to 50, maybe soloing because else everyone would die.

Also I'm curious now about something else, something I noticed, maybe I just had luck with it... Is that... I have never seen "A bad healer"... I explain, you can easily notice when a tank does it bad, oh yes...Everyone does...And especially in the tank's case you notice it a lot... But also in DPS you can notice it....What I have not noticed yet is when a healer does it bad... For me it is always like "The healer" and nothing less, nothing more, I can't remember yet a party where we failed because the healer... Is it because they are all super okay doing it? Or because it is easy?... Somehow I can't imagine myself healing a Sastasha... What about a titan ex?...

I hope to find answers to my nooby questions in this interesting thread!

I was a healer in FFXI (long time ago) and loved how I could get a party, gain instant respect, and teleport people. It was a hard game and I was stuck playing a healer for so long I got sick of it but didn't want to stop because I was getting ahead that way. Then I left FFXI and played WoW and about every fantasy mmo in existence and I was amazed at how much people sucked at being healers. I was always like, "you should of played FFXI it was harsh this shiz is easy in comparison." I was still defaulting to healer because it's what I was trained to do and I do it better than anyone else. I forced myself in DDO to walk out of healing and focused on being a rogue (only game that ever made a true honest thief class). Since then I've expanded to enjoying every class in mmo's except tank. I can tank but I hate it; FFXIV makes tanking akin to pulling your finger nails out. I'm playing every class in this game but my instincts since I'm back in a Final Fantasy setting are to view myself as a healer.

It's very stressful. Especially When when the raid dies and it could possibly be your actions to blame. It does get boring, extremely boring in low level dungeons as all you do is cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure cure.

The fun? How about the simplicity? Even our gear is simple, as all we need is mind whereas DPS and Tanks have that Accuracy requirement that I can only laugh at. Your one job is to keep everyone alive, that's it.

I also like healing because it's a nice break from the general gameplay most games force you into. We're not here to kill monsters, we're not here to dodge bullets. We're here to save lives and support our friends.

And as of right now, it is the only support-focused class. The only one.

Nice replies! I decided to read fully all the replies of this thread... And what I found a lot in the replies is: "Because healer is the most important role", "Because I hate rotations", "Because I'm tired of rotations"

Now... I think the following... I have been using all the Disciples of War during months, so far enjoying them, the tanks and DPS... But if you ask me "Hey, what's the rotation of your DRG - MNK?" I can't reply... Does people really have some skills stated to use and they repeat all the time?... Maybe I'm a noob, but I don't care so much about those rotation stuff, I just do different actions, attack sometimes different mobs for putting DoT on them and stuff...

Isn't it easier to just hit enemies and don't worry about certain rotations?... So far, the only thing I think I repeat a lot is the "Full Rage" mode in BF hard when I have to AoE the stuffs having a lot of buffs for it in the moment, and I totally do it for fun, I don't think "I have to do that rotation" I just think "Okay, let's activate all the damn coldowns I reserved... NOW! Massacre starts!"

PS: I think the three roles are equal importants in a party.
I used to not appreciate DPS at all before, just thinking that the only really important was the tank and healer, no monsters attacking the healer so healer can heal and everything fine... But DPS are also important, not only for speeding the things up, but in some battles, if tank and heal doesn't do it fast enough, healer runs out of MP or is not able to heal enough the tank (Big pulls). And in battles like Titan EX what in my opinion more messes it up are DPS don't dodging properly, hearth phase damage, that stuff.

(When I started using my monk I noticed for first time that some dungeons could be done quick!...Sometimes too quick, maybe... [I got kicked once because I liked to maintain greased lightning III])

I started healing because most of my pugs had bad healers in it..
    i couldnt take it anymore.

also as healer you can carry your group to the win, which a single DPS cannot if the tank and the healer suck.

I want to be the guy, rather, gal (in game) that people can rely on. I want people to say, hey, we want Raeanya in our party, because when she is there, we don't have to even look at our health bar.

I love being the unsung hero. If I do my job well and a run goes really smooth, no one knows any different. I could have done really well, but they will never know that. All they'll know is that the run went smooth.

    I really enjoy that aspect.

Simply put, I've always played healers in MMOs. A good healer is the lynchpin of a good group. They keep everyone alive long enough to do their jobs, and without them it all falls apart. A party can survive for a time without a tank if their DPS is good, they can survive without a DPS, but they won't last long without a healer.

I've always enjoyed playing roles where I feel like I'm instrumental to the success of the group. It's one of the reasons why I don't play DPS roles as much as the others. Keeping everyone alive through the toughest of times is pretty much the peak of that, and is why I play them so much. I never settle for second best either. I always strive to keep everyone alive no matter what the odds. Naturally, it doesn't always turn out that way but I'll always go down fighting to keep the group alive, even sacrificing myself if it means the others will succeed.

While it's great to get all the comms and I love reading "nice heals" and stuff like that, to me, it is when we can get through all of the chaos and stress without a death. Even if nobody says a word and no comms are given, I feel the accomplishment in what I did.
