The bad reputation some people make for themselves catches up with them eventually. Those with the bad reputations built up over the last 9 months are the ones I see nowadays asking why no-one is answering them or spending aaaaages looking for a party because more people would rather not have a party than party with them. Things like this will eventually grind them down 'til they quit the game in a fit of nerdrage.

It pays to have good reputation within your community. The little things count, and especially in quieter locations in the game where people don't have others around to help or notice them.

As for the person standing on the crafting light, did you ask them to move? It's quite possible he ran into the guild and tabbed out to view a web page for recipies or something, as people often do, before you appeared on his screen. I know I do this on occassion and only leave the chat window visible, although I do take the time to make sure I'm not standing on people, or even standing staring at people as that's a bit weird also.

I wouldn't suggest any of these being rules, but guidelines to maintaining a good reputation.

I'll never understand how some people can forget/choose not to be polite to strangers over the internet.
To me it's no different from meeting someone in your own town. It makes me wonder what kind of people they must be in person, and if their parents never taught them better.
I try to treat others the way I'd like to be treated, whether I'm meeting them in person, speaking on the phone, on forums, or in a game.
I respect others until they disrespect me. If someone chooses to be disrespectful all the time, they're not someone I want to be around, and I avoid them.

As for good deeds people do for me, I offer to pay them back, and if I don't get the chance I like to pay it forward to someone else.

I wouldn't mind seeing SE write something up about manners and politeness as a reminder to people, but I don't expect it to change anyone. People who care about politeness will already do their best to be polite. Those who don't care about anyone but themselves simply will not.

You obviously haven't seen the internet anonymity chart.

Once people don't have a face, they let themselves out of the closet and take all the nasty years-old grime with them.

I don't see the problem with people being cluttered around things like crucial NPCs and aetherytes, but even on the most well behaved servers you have people running around naked and making emotes on your characters while you are trying to craft, or Roegadyn's intentionally sitting on your craft. Should be reported for harassment as I always do.

I'm well aware that some people are like that. I just don't understand them.
People don't magically turn into other people online. If they're showing their true colours, and they're truly a jerk, but can act polite in person, then they're just two-faced.
