So I get married and then use a Fantasia to change my sex.
Will the marriage(and its perks) still be valid?

Really wish they would just leave marriage out of the game

Hey, I'd rather not deal with it too, but my girlfriend will obviously pressure me into it when the patch hits.
My dillemma is that I'm playing a female character, and have no intention of permanently changing into a male character.

SE has not released any details regarding marriage yet, but it is rumored to be included in Patch 2.4.

Well with the shitstorm in every thread about marriage, I would have to agree with many others that SE's best option is probably to just keep marriage out of the game. It would be nice to have, but not worth the headache.

I could care less if they have gay marriage or not honestly. As I said I see no reason for marriage at all. This is a game and most people only make time for doing things in game like raids, missions and quests. When do you honestly have time to make a personal enough connection to want to marry another player? If you say well we are together in real life then sack up and get married in real life, if you're already married in real life great, but this is a game leave it as one and keep the extra drama away from it.

This is an incredibly valid question. Especially since it appears that marriage is slated for release sometime around 2.4, and Fantasia Potions are rumored to be being added to the Mog Station Optional Services Shop sometime this or next month. So since it is clearly confirmed that Fantasia Potions are going to be available to mass purchase, and even if they are not, since they are available as a one time perk to everyone who has had a subscription for, what is it? 60 days? Then the question really should be asked, what is stopping someone from creating a Male character with a female name, getting that character married to a female character, and then using their Fantasia to change said characters gender to Female once the marriage is in effect? Will the Marriage be invalidated upon the use of a Fantasia?
Way to suck the fun out of the marriage mechanics of various other games.I could care less if they have gay marriage or not honestly. As I said I see no reason for marriage at all. So long as the Marriage Mechanic doesn't include Shared Inventory Space then everything is fine and dandy.

~ Eternal Dawn FC ~ Male Player ~

Im going to assume that the rings will be gender locked. So a male character for example could marry then use fantasia to change to female and wouldnt be able to equip the ring anymore. Whether the couple are still married or not is another matter, being that we've only heard that dropping the ring will divorce you. Could be entirely possible that the only thing that signifies you as being married is having that ring and it's simply a unique item which is what keeps you from marrying again. We dont know anything else about the marriage system beyond that but I doubt there will be any kind of perks. Maybe marrying/attending a wedding will give you an achievement for the chocobo or something, or it could be its own thing.
Its entirely possible they might do the system like in XI too. Technically they didnt have same-sex marriage in that game either, but you were still able to get the rings and buy all the wedding items and set up your own player-made wedding, you just didnt get the GM running it. Who knows, they might allow the fantasia switch then a trade in for the ring to get a gender appropriate one as a workaround for it.

There's people who want the game to have a marriage system. FF11 had it, so why take away the fun from the rest of the players? It's called role play. The game is not solely raids, missions and quests... that would be boring. I don't agree that SE should just take it away because people are complaining about the same sex marriage thing. It's just as easy as switching races. If you don't love that person enough that you are not willing to sacrifice your character's gender, then... why are you getting married in the first place?
@OP they will probably introduce a way like they did in FF11 some time after the official weddings with GM, where you could take the ring and wedding attire from a chest and exchange it. People worked around this way to be able to equip the ring with their significant other's name without having to be of opposite sex. This could be a good solution, actually.
