I think he means doing things besides Atma grind. Though for most people, they already have done everything else so there really is nothing left to do but Atma farm.

And Square isn't going to change it. The last live letter basically said that they are not planning to do anything but add more ways to get mythology tomes for those who are doing the books.

Serious question, maybe it can make the grind less boring?

    1. GC seals drop at a regular rate, and pretty fast rate when farming fates level 30+.
    2. Using the seals, you get easy access to repeating quick ventures indefinitely
    3. ...as well as spiritbonding draughts. Farm fates with gear you can convert into profitable materia at a nice pace.
    4. Basic gil drops aren't that impressive, but the gil rewards from satisfying challenge logs can add up.
    5. Chocobo grinding is not just convenient to do for safety/speed in fates, every week you can kill 100 mobs (in fates due to levelsync), which will gurantee an extra 15% chocobo xp for the given level, once a week.
    6. I do try and team up not only for some socializing and cooperative groaning when new members get the drop as soon as they join, but to speed up general fate completion rates.
    7. Now that my main class weapon is no longer zenith, I found farming atma as an opportunity to practice rotations and macros on my less-used classes.
    8. Beastmen daily quests have some fate drops which you can farm in advance. I find this a matter of convenience, but still handy.
    9. And of course, occasionally getting atma. I have 72 so far, and the average droprate has been 3.25%.

The one bit of side strategy I employ- Sometimes I go on for hours with no drops. Now I know this could be purely RNG, but out of habit i try and rule out potential 'zenith detection' game bugs too, by changing out of a zenith weapon class, and back in, every once in awhile.

No regrets, as my per- atma wait has never been over 10 hours. Ever.

Great tips in your post there but this one line has bugged me. 10 hours would have been welcome for me. Got my first atma after 4 fates in the zone. Awesome! Went to the next zone, nothing. next zone, nothing, next zone, nothing. Repeat that for 20 hours and you have to predicament i was in. 20 HOURS of no drop whatsoever. THAT right there is whats wrong with making the atma quest COMPLETELY RNG based. Now i know there are people that love purely RNG mechanics, i really am no different as long as its not something THIS ridiculous. With every RNG based mechanic, they really should add a "progression" element. inb4: "getting it is progression" no, it is not. it is merely a reset to the 12 step grind. What SMART companies do is add these "progression" elements to RNG mechs so that people dont feel like the whole world is against them and that they really should just quit. What im talking about is a staking bonus that resets weekly, or daily, for FATEs. We all know the atma drop rate is probly ~1%. (basing that off of how it seems they really just threw this in the system without even thinking about it) but what if that increased ever so slightly whenever you did a FATE? there it is, PROGRESSION. what i would like to see is the atma rate start at 0% and increase by 0.1% for every fate that you do but still capping at 10-15%. So to get there you still have to grind a lot of fates but you are working your way to an actual goal that will keep people going.

The problem with hazarding a "drop rate" is it's incalculable. Just because you did 100 FATEs and out of those 100, the 12 dropped for you doesn't mean it's the same for anyone else. Hell, I logged off to take a break yesterday and when I got back on, I was chatting with an FC mate about the atma grind in general. First FATE I went to in Central Shroud and maiden dropped.

Yours maths are all wrong. It's not:

    100
    1000

    and so on.

    The actual rate is:

    X
    Y

X being the amount of FATEs you did and Y, as in, Y U NO GIV ME ATMA?!

All kidding aside, the formula actually is X/Y. I know there's some Stephen Hawking guy who's out there actually able to calculate or formulate the proper function for infinite rates.

I've made multiple suggestions on how atma droprate could be increased, but in a manner that wasn't creating a hand-out.

    Like the divining rod concept.

Alas, no response, though I didn't really expect one.

No, that's Basic Military Training. And I've been there, done that. This isn't the least bit comparable. But I do understand, it's something to feel distinguished by. Something to be proud of accomplishing, and in MMOs, everyone wants to have that something to feel proud of. But you said it yourself, it's not a test of skill.

Would I feel more accomplished having won the Super Bowl or the Stanley Cup because I used my skills and won it, or because I simply just put in the time until someone or something said "Ok, here you go"? Would I be proud of having won it that way? Personally, no, but mileage may vary, I suppose.

I'm not attacking your words, and I apologize if I come off as such. But I've just hit that point where I can't and won't rationalize something I see too many flaws in.

It's a test of "How much recycled content can we shove at a player before they demand we actually do something?"

It's a no-win situation. Bad content with a shiney reward to make people overlook the bad content.

Not just that, but content that requires so much patience and luck that when you do get it, you look at it and see just how weak it is compared to weapons from the primals and coil that take half the time to get. I will never understand how an RNG drop based weapon can be WEAKER compared to weapons that can easily drop from a boss mob.

Isn't the logic in RPGs are "more obtuse/RNG based drops=insanely powerful item?"
