Alright, so I just finished the L50 Blacksmith quest, and the Hellfire Phoenix was my client. Who was she? Is she from 1.0?

Yes she was - her real name is J'moldva, and she was connected to the GLA class quests in 1.0, but from what I remember she was an Ala Mhigan refugee who was the first Ala Mhigan challenger to reach the final tournament in the Colosseum, but she threw a match with her opponent (a roegadyn GLA named Greinfarr) to appease the Ul'dahns who bet against her.
Unfortunately she was then regarded as an outcast amongst her own people so she and Greinfarr fled Ul'dah for Gridania, only for Greinfarr to run afoul of a unit of Wood Wailers they encountered while in the Black Shroud (who then refused to assist the wounded J'moldva due to them not wanting to involve themselves in 'blood quarrels' of those who kill for entertainment - J'moldva's injuries had been sustained in the Colosseum match she fought with Greinfarr). In the end J'moldva actually joined the Wood Wailers and turned her back on the Colosseum, and her heritage, and that was the last she was seen in 1.0. It's interesting that she's returned in ARR, and appearing during a crafter class quest too.
If I've missed anything I'm sure one of the Loremasters can go into greater detail (or point out any errors I've made).

I don't remember full details but I remember a quest in 1.0 where in the coliseum, there was an unbeatable duo who was very famous. One night they were forced to fight each other and one faked their loss. I believe afterwards they fled to Gridania. I think these 2 may have been the duo from then
On a side note: Why the hell isn't Bronze Bull using the sword I made him in Halatali! I went through that effort and he still has his old sword ; ;
Edit: Ninja'd by Enkidoh who provided much better detail then what I remembered. Thankfully what I remembered wasn't too far fetched
Lol, her name was Moldva? So that's the gladiator the new big fish was named after. Awesome.
For those non-fishers who have no idea what I'd talking about:
Moldva - "This Ala Mhigan Fighting Fish has never known defeat, and for this remarkable feat folk have named it for the celebrated gladiator."
Ah, so the Bronze Bull was in 1.0 as well. That's who you make the sword for (though you're hired by the Phoenix), and his real name is Greinfarr. I see. Neat.
Don't presume you've seen the last of Greinfarr/Bronze Bull.
He was also part of the "Ul'dah clique" which included F'lhaminn. If the storyline persuing Niellefresne's death is to be further explored, we may see him again. (And the miner twins, for that matter.)
Uh.... who is Niellefresne?
He was F'lhaminn's elezen lover from about (if I've counted correctly) 15 years ago. Niellefresne was a former master of Ul'dah's Goldsmithing Guild. He was briefly mentioned in ARR's main story questline, after you and Alphinaud brought F'lhaminn back to the Waking Sands. F'lhaminn requested your help in having an earring repaired, remember? That earring is a memento from Niellefresne.
Ah... I finished the main quest three months ago. Hard to remember it all. Especially when they reference things from 1.0...He was F'lhaminn's elezen lover from about (if I've counted correctly) 15 years ago. Niellefresne was a former master of Ul'dah's Goldsmithing Guild. Well... I played version 1.0 for only a short while, and only from the Lominsan perspective, so I can't claim to know much about the original story. Not that it actually matters much, because ARR is meant to be a complete reboot. The references are meant mainly to be a nod to players of the original version.
What does amuse me about the Ul'dahn storyline, however, is Thancred's crush on F'lhaminn, considering how much older than him she probably is. I mean, she's a total milf, no doubt about that, but still... >.>
