This game has been casual from day one. If you consider yourself hardcore in this game and you are still playing it, then deep down you like casual games. Nothing is hard to do in this game and it is not XI, so if you want true hardcore gaming go back to XI.

What most apparently don't consider is that appealing to casuals can (and has) benefited MMOs to some degree. I agree that cash shops and low-difficulty content is a downside to the actual experience (though content of a modern MMO should be developed for various playstyles to ensure financial success and quality in future content), but competing for casuals will ultimately result in gameplay innovation/improvement.

If someone has a short amount of time to play (i.e. a life), they are most likely going to pick the funner and more interesting game to invest their spare time in. This considered, who honestly would pay a monthly fee for an MMO with absolutely stale gameplay and major technical issues over a more stable and popular MMO with more intuitive and dynamic gameplay (or even over a single-player game for that matter)??

    TL;DR - (I can't believe this thread is almost 80 pages long...)

you miss my point that for most part even in the genre's you speak the game as years go by keeps getting more deeply challenging, theres more buttons to use, more things added to the original. every system that came out keeps adding more buttons to its controllers, now no controllers to use and what not.

some games stay the same yes, though they do build on top of it a little. also it's a general census, i'm not saying every game, i'm sure theres tons of games that are the same from first one to latest one and that they are very simple games. i like simple games, played lots and then u trade them in after a few months tops and get another one. only children with no money replay games a million times (for most part) i personally like playing on hardest mode once and done. but i surely played mario and other games all day and nite for years when i was little. i rather take mmonths doing cop missions once over repeating a dungeon 100times with ease solo. that's just me.

also i played a few lego games, i love them. but i beat them to 100% on items. that is the fun part to me and the only challenging part of those games. without that option the game is a 2hour game and not worth it's money in gameplay. see where i'm going? time to collect, it's absolutely crap if collecting gear in ffxiv will be to easy.

I dunno if I am casual or hardcore. I play 3 nights a week, get in, get it done, helps others as much as possible if they need or want it. Maybe I am a mix of both?

Can a moderator just close this now please?

This is like argueing about people who like apples, and people who like oranges and the grocery store they buy them at should only sell one or the other, never both...

I dunno, for the past 39 days (the entire time ive spent playing) its been from 12 midday to 4am. Been on and off more recently checking the forums, walking the dogs, etc, etc. But even with all that time spent playing I still consider myself sort of casual because in the manner that I play.

I only play 3 days a week due to real life obligations (family, school, etc), though I very much enjoy playing. Maybe I am casual as well.

I have the same opinion. I might be playing a lot now (Summer~), but I still consider myself pretty casual.

Really, I can be playing 24/7 and still be a "casual". It seems some people think that spending more time in-game = hardcore. If that's the case, the people that spend hours in Farmville are the pure definition of the hardcore gamer. Yey.

I find that its the Mindset of a player that determines whether S/He's Casual or Hardcore, I've also found that every rule and law we make there's an exception (exception to that rule is the basic laws of physics)

This thread should have never been necro'd. I really wish a mod would lock it.
